Seeing as quite a few of us have acrylic turntables these days, I was wondering if any of you could offer advice on how to clean cloudy acrylic platters and clear acrylic bases?

One dealer has told me to just use warm water & washing-up liquid....

More importantly, given acrylic's affinity for picking up "microswirlies", what is the best material for polishing it?

I use a soft cloth with water and washing up liquid.

Any particular type of washing up liquid? Just worried that the dark-green fairy stuff I use will stain it!

Anti-bac or no anti-bac? Does this affect the sound? :D

I got hold of a very light feather duster type thing.

    Works fine for me.

For cleaning anything from acrylic and glass to stainless steel, this really is awesome and you only need water...

I've had one for about three years now and wouldn't be without it, especially with me having a glass dining table and QS acrylic rack etc. It's also great for windows, the telly, kitchen appliances, bathroom taps and stuff. Ooh, I could go on!

Cheers Alex - will definitely check that out then.

BTW, tried warm water & washing up liquid yesterday - only moderately effective, but it'll do for now...

I'll take Alex's word on his cleaning cloth as I've only ever used
soft cotton, never use synthetics as they scratch all types of acrylic.
Meths is very good for cleaning off grease and other marks and will not harm the acrylic providing you use clean soft cotton.
Old cotton sheets or hankies are the best; Please wash first.

Best way to clean acrylic? Carefully, very carefully... Penance's water, soft cloth and dishwashing liquid is the best. No solvent stronger than methylated spirit, and then only when strictly necessary.

Lighter fluid can also be used to clean off sticky things that meths cant touch, the glue on some labels etc, but you need to clean that off after with meths as it leaves an oily residue.
