Shocker is, im not sure if its staying...its abit too honest for my liking and there is no colouration to the sound at all! With audiophile discs it sound absolutely stunning:eek:
With less than perfect cd's though, it sounds awful...
The bass is awesome though, no overhang at all :D and endless reserves of power :JPS:

    What do i do??

    Cheers

That's what MF gear does sadly. Do you want to spend the rest of your life listening to hi-fi or to music?

Personally I find such retro 60s/70s styling very vulgar.

It looks quite nice (if you have matching kit) but if it makes half your music collection sound cack, that would be the clincher for me. Leave the analytical kit to the laboratories mate. ;)

In all seriousness mate, you might want to try a big fat chunky valve amp.

If you are finding the MF too clinical, then I think you would find things a lot more robust sounding with some fat tubes.

A trip from Norwich to emporium in Diss.. Nick would lend you a decent valve amp so you could see if this was a good move for you.

I wouldnt worry about which specific models, just take his reccomendation on your budget and give it a try.

Sonics aside (and with all due respect ... these things after all a matter of taste :) ), but that's the mingingest piece of kit I ever saw.

Compare and contrast to the luvverly Copland amp on another thread to understand why Scandinavia is renowned for understated, functional and downright classy design and Wembley isn't ;)

PS - and I notice it has 4 (count them FOUR) blue elliedees ... as if one isn't too many :)

PPS. and glowing blue feet, too ... Eegads  they should be shot.

That is pure chav’d / bling’d up Ford Fiesta IMHO, it has nothing whatsoever to do with 70s styling, as typified by my lovely TV system Marantz:

    Mmmm 70s styling.

Agreed, the above marantz is retro chic. The copland is contemporary cool. MF is in another category... bling. :D

Yes, that MF is one of the ugliest modern amps I've ever seen - designed purely with the US market in mind.

Unfortunately, the analytical nature of these super transistor amps is what drives people to valves, pure class A, and hybrids. Its also a common problem with high-end cd players (have exactly the same problem as you here), where the awful mastering quality of pop albums is all too aparent.

Sell it and buy an A21SE or a Logos instead ;)

Best wait to compare it with the new MF range out tomorrow.

Then compare it with the next new range by MF out next week.

Honestly, they are worse than Bill Gates.

All that MF is missing is gold plating and it'd be sorted.

Ultrasonic Have you checked out Basically Sound, they're closing down so might have a bargain if there's any stock left.

    Agreed :D ;)

Actually I think MF have completely lost it with the styling... the new kW/A5/A3.5 casing looks dreadful (especially the A5) very cheap and tinny, the CD players are amongst the ugliest and sh*t-looking I have ever seen.

I don't think it's as bad as all that, although more led's than I'd want on any bit of equipment, and of course it does have rather big knobs......

.....but if that's bling, what the hell do you call some of these Chinese valve amps?! What with polished everything, bloody tragic names/logos, huge stainless steel transformer covers, gold plated cages, pointless bits of wood stuck on for no apparent reason, binding posts the size of toilet rolls etc etc..

I mean, sound quality aside, some of them look like something you might win at the fair! :D
