Track down Strummer on PFM, Ian has a pair of Tannoy FSM`s real brutes they are too. They have a 15" DC driver and another 15" non DC driver in the same cabinet.

I have heard them and they are very nice speakers

That would be the 215 DMTs. I have the slightly smaller version with the single 15" paper driver.

Ok not familiar with that range, Dev. They're just 10 lbs more than the DMTs 215 and same volume (300 litres). I reckon the DMT cabs might be somewhat superior.

    Correct Dev.

Ian has a Crown K1 on duty with the Non dc driver and a Meridian 555 I think on the dc cone. with some sort of Naim Pre.

Boy o Boy does it play loud, almost takes your skin off LOL

I think the DMTs came much later than the FSM. I saw DMT 215s in a recording studio but unfortunately couldn't hear them:(. I was told that Kylie's "I can't get you out of my mind" was recorded/mixed/whatever using these in the same studio. They have very good bass allegedly, but he didn't let me hear them :grrr:. They were finished in a tough grey synthentic plastic(?) rather than the traditional wood finish normally seen on older Tannoys. I looked much more durable and "industrial".

Dev, you have so got the right room for a pair of huge Tannoys.

Your wife seems a very fine and reasonable woman, I'm sure she can be convinced. It's not as if your current speakers are tiny after all...

FSM is i think tannoy's first studio monster with 15" DC plus 15 bass, somewhere from early 80s.

i've just got offered one for £1,200 but not being based in the UK and therefore unable to check the drivers myself i 'll have to pass

215 is similar in concept and box volume except it lacks the appearance of the older model and it apparently have rather compromised x-over that needs an immediate upgrade.

japs are using 215 turned 90 degrees so both drivers are in vertical axis, DC up

I know Ian (Stummer) very well and know for a fact he would be delighted to let you have a listen.

Fact if your up north anywhere and fancy making half a day of it, come and listen to my GRF`s powered by 2 watt valves and we could then go and listen to Ians FSM powered by 100000000 watts or whatever it totals up to LOL.

Sorry Dev just spotted your in the South. Maybe not as easy to organise half a days listening!!!

    Anubisgrau

That is a very good price for FSM`s and might be worth the hassle of getting them moved.

Yes Ian, but I quite like my D700s and don't want the hassle of changing. They are not as good as some of the classics being mentioned here but OK for my needs.

She is but it didn't stop her giving me the silent treatment for 2 days after I bought the D700s. Now, I must try and remember why that was a bad thing:D.

Andy, yes I am in the sunny south. If Ian (SSB) or anyone else from around here wants to join me perhaps we can arrange it. Just how far north are you/Ian?

I'm up for it if it's not too far north. Watford? :)

I am in Hebden Bridge about 20 miles from Tony L, and Ian is Just off the M62 fairly close to Liverpool (St Helens)

Ian there really is life above Watford LOL

Ian, I haven't looked up where Hebden Bridge is yet and Liverpool is indeed way up north but if you are up for it, let's make a plan (via PM, I don't think we need to bore anyone else:).

Sounds good to me. We can pop into Tony's and terrorise his Harbeths too if you like (I'm assuming he won't mind!)

Drop me a PM with any suggested dates etc. Strummer posted to the Tannoy mailing list yesterday that he was reluctantly selling his speakers, btw.
