If Louis Armstrong was on "performance-enhancing substances", no wonder he performed so well.

a little way from the from the cyclist jazz player confusion.

you have ''harmonia mundi'' in your autosig. that's as the chain of specialist classical/jazz record shops in found in sw france. i use one in montaubon as it's close to where the in laws live and thinking that was the only one i saw another one in toulouse last weekend. are they all over france? either way they are great shops.

JH, I can't tell you exactly where Harmonia Mundi have stores. I only saw one once - great store too - in Arles, in shouthern France. I think that's where they were based originally. But they are very well distributed by all major retailers.

As for the autosig. I actually am not related to them in any way. I just meant to stress the fact that I am an ancient music fan - which they specialize in - and also, in the strict sense, that more harmony in the world couldn't hurt. :)

    Harmonia Mudi shop in PAris

There is a Harmonia Mundi shop on Avenue de l'Opera in Paris (Near Brentano's and across the street from Tokyo Mitsubishi Bank on Rue St Anne FWIW).
I picked up a shedload of CDs last year. It's an excellent little place.
The other great record shop is the shop if l'Institute du Monde Arabe, which has an amazing, concentrated selection of Arab and North African music (and literature). Superb. The cashier's jaw hit the floor when I walked up with my basket :D

That's half a mile from where I live as the crow flies. I'll check it out, although I'm not sure it's a good idea, moneywise I mean ;)

The Institut du monde arabe is a bit further off, but it's a nice walk along the Seine. Not today though, a major storm is threatening.

i'm mainly a jazz buyer and the thing i like about HM is that the selection is not the usual usual. it is however quite expensive for cd's although france it too i suppose. vinyl would be good addition but the shops are tiny. the woman who runs to montabon shop always offers to wrap what ever i've bought in case it's a cadeau. you do seem to get a few local muso obsessives in there. the the esoteric zg bunch should feel right at home
