This looks a bit special (read expensive), never seen or heard of a wooden tone arm before. It looks of deceptively low quality (I assume - probably burr walnut etc) wood though....

Anyone got any ideas as to price, make and model (not that I'm going to buy one, just interested) and the rather tasty looking wooden cart attached to it?

    Hi,

That is a Grace 714 tonearm. It dates from the 60s & 70s. It is made from teak & is a oil damped Unipivot arm. Not sure of the cost.

Grace had a arm called the 707 which was very popular in UK in the 70s. It was the prefered partner on the LP12 before the Ittok came along.

I think the company disappeared in the 80s.

Not too sure about the cartridge. I would guess it's a Benz Micro.

What SCIDB said. The cart could be a Grado.

    Hi Ian,

You are right, it's a Grado Reference.

Thanks for that, knew someone would know!!

Looks like wooden tonearms are a bit on the rare side these days, just a bit of a novelty I spotted and thought it might be of interest :rds2:

These are still quite popular in Japan. I have seen a couple in Jade (though not made by Grace I think), which are very collectable and expensive.
I think this arm may be a copy of a US original. Will look that up.
