Westlakes are good and unusual to find in the UK I would have thought.

    yesh!

completely rumbled in 10 seconds flat by cooky.

    not suprised though :D

Was pleased to find them, a great find.

It's been interesting comparing the westlake version of the 2397 with the original JBL.

I will try putting another photo up of the finished thing.

maybe mark can fix it if it doesnt work!! wish I was a computing expert.

I'd consider refinishing the entire speaker using a dark stain. I believe that would help tie in the stands making the whole a bit more integrated appearance-wise. Still, very nice! Sounds like they are really making your rig sing!

    yak! a picture of me!
    eek

yes, love my rug.. thanks joe.

I suspect 'stain everything dark' is probably the way to go.

Was avoiding that, like the oak veneer on the bass cabs and real oak legs of the stands, but its visually ''not right'' now... and will all look a lot better in a similar hue.

I'd hate to paint the westlakes black also, I like wood to look like wood.

WOW. Just lovely. The horns, I mean:D

Wait until I get done with my horns:The Mighty VincHorns. 1,6 m tall double-mouth topsy curvy 8"'s. Only a couple of paint coats from ya', mate.

I personally like the clear/dark wood contrast a lot. I'd leave 'em as they are.

good on you vinc for building some.

I know the speaker DIY route I've begun down will mean I never buy high-end loudspeakers ever again.

Do you have any photos of your work in progress?

Whether I fancied ATC-150's or Wilson Puppies or whatever I just see so much wood and drive units when I look at them.

Anyway, why talk of wilson and atc, I'd rather listen to horns.

Eventually I will go to a full 4 way horn system, flat from 30hz all the way up.. but my neighbours wouldnt allow that here... and a simple 15" in a cab does give you a lot for a small footprint (small being a matter of perspective).. as a stop gap.

.. like any stop-gap though you stop and question yourself and think ... why exactly would I want more again?... especially when I have a squeezebox 3 as a sole digital source for example...

nb those photos have dissapeared!... I have no luck with this kind of thing!

Mines are a bit more humble, but I do agree with you entirely regarding the high-end speakers choice. Rather make 'em myself, have fun and tweak no end!

There are some pics of my work in progress here:

I'm almost done by now. May finish 'em this week, but it depends of my duties as daddy too. Demanding task. Talk about DIY mate

having loads of fun with crossovers tonight. I have about 3 different sets of inductors, a barrel full of resistors, what fun :)

beginning to sound pretty kick-arse now, if I say so myself.

Vinc - yours look full range no crossover? - this will make things a lot easier to implement, a good idea :)

Are you going to bring in subs at the natural roll-off point if you need them?

Gonna implement the KISS principle as far as I can. The thing with bass is more a "how much you need question" than a real problem IMHO. The keyword to me is balance. Subs add more problems and variables, that'd need to be addressed as well, so the much sought-after solution might end up as part of the problem itself.

I think the VincHorn's bass was actually quite impressive despite the natural roll-off, but I haven't tried them in my living room yet.

Too much crap and paperwork to do these days at school

    Hi Vinc
    Congratulations on finishing your project.

The start of a new hobby, or the end of a road travelled?

Thanks for the compliments, guys ;)!

More like a new hobby, bottleneck. I'm not going back, this is astonishingly good. Perhaps playing with different drivers later on, like an Audio Nirvana Super cast frame or Alnico and others.

Gonna tweak them first and enjoy them as they are for now. Must address the rest of the room as well as... the missus :jig:

Just bought a pair of Sica 8" drivers to start playing. Bass is not completely satisfactory. My room is a real pain though, 6 m. high at parts, open to first floor architect-like living room, 7m. of glass to the right and big window on the rear, open loft concept, massive oak floors and Danish minimalist wife. Any worse:confused:?

So maybe I may consider a subwoofer after all, bottleneck... since massive acoustic panels and crap on the wall is out of the question. Perhaps some huge canvas? Any ideas?

One thing's for sure. These are not the last ones I'm building. It's great fun:cool:!

    Regards,

    Vincula
