    Hi Amir

A lot of people dont believe in 'break in' time (myself included).

Those that do, often reccomend leaving music playing through cables for a few days solid.

Anyone who changes components in valve amps would argue with you there. A month imo.

Anex, I change components in valve amps, and I agree with myself ;)

Generally I find between 2:30am and 4am is best.

Have you tried Vishays, black gates and PSU polys? In my experience they sound unlistenable for over a month. No bass and very headachey. Then they just snap into focus and its all good from then on.

I will second that on Vishays, at least 100hours before they play music.

What's the explanation for "burn-in" of audio cables? Does this alleged phenomenon occur anywhere else outside hi-fi?

Not sure anyone really knows? Some kind of polarisation of something or other perhaps. There you go, that explains everything. :)

Can't say I've ever found this to be necessary with cables, having used a variety...Kimber,Nordost,XLO,Linn,and even Monster yrs ago....with components it's certainly a necessity, and very noticeable with valved gear.

There isn't one, and no. :)

Edit: mind you, it's hardly the only 'disputed' phenomenon that people like to adhere to in audio circles.

I bet it does occur outside audio, accurate electrolytic caps do not behave linearly for quite a while after they've been put into a circuit. I bet theres some precision measuring equpiment or something which needs to be left to burn in. I've heard of big lasers being recallibrated or whatever they do to it after three months or so, not sure what thats related to though.

I'm sure I could charge for that also, especially if it involved me burning in very expensive cables for extended periods! :JPS:

Excuse my asking, but is it not what happens with dogs when they eventually stop pissing on the carpet ? :)

There are no accurate electrolytic capacitors. If you want accuracy, or close tolerance, you do not use electrolytic capacitors. No one has since the early days of electronics. They do not improve in regard of 'dielectric absorbtion' whatever you do to them. This is not an audio 'golden ears' phenomenon - just ordinary electronic engineering.

Ok but some are more accurate than others and their output changes which is the point I was making.
