Sorry David, just a play on the arguments this forum has seen about whether electronics/cables have a break in/burn in period.

Sucks that people still do such things - one of the reasons my bikes live inside the house. Glad it was only a pair of cutters, but still sucks.

    Hi David,

Sorry to hear about your break in. Have you fixed the door lock? One thing that could happen is that they could return to try again. Is there anything else of worth in there?

Have you reported this to the police? There is always a chance of you getting your stuff back and the people being caught.

I would take advice on security for your property. Alarms, locks and lights are the way to go.

Yes its been reported to the police......not much hope of getting the hedge trimmer back. Insurance job.

The door is now screwed shut (certainly not bullet proof but better....) and everything of value moved into the house(pretty  ) .

Yes we are looking into the lights /alarm idea. Like having a pretty thorough review.

    Lost last nights work .

My Dads comiing around with soem new bits.

Its all a bl**dy nuisance, pity people can't keept heir hands off other peoples property.

But I suspect not very legal??

the insurance for my stuff (an expensive hedge cutter .....and my blower actually) seems to be going through with out a hitch.....so far very smoothly in fairness. No quibble atall.

Theres a £60 excess to pay which is NOT what I was looking for.....but i didn't want to loose those tools......I kinda wonder where the justice is in it all though.

My Dads just put a VERY meaty lock on the door.

But what a lot of bu**eration because some people can't keep heir hands off other peoples property.

(edit I've got to watch now in case they come back for the new kit when it arrives......)

About as legal as the little scrotes breaking in to your garage.

I have a bren gun you can borrow.

Yes, I know, not sure the law sees it that way though.

    Don't tempt me.....

......its frustrating when its tools you work with......in my case now I use them 99% for helping my parents ...who are now able to do less.

A bloody bren gun, can you imagine firing that from the hip the recoil would tear you in half.

I'd take up the offer of the bren gun (ooh if only), as it doesn't matter how chunky the lock is if it's screwed to ageing woodwork - 30 secs to jemmy it open, easy. Go for deterrents as suggested by SCIDB, lights, alarms, etc.....

    Hiya David,
Sorry to hear about the break in. I don't know about your area, but guess generally the old security light is a deterant.

However, where my Dad's shop is, the security light would have been better if it was not working:eek:, as we got the impression it helped the gits see what they were doing, smashing the steel plated door in, lots of domestic windows overlooking:confused:. And, yes they came back the next week with a car jack to bend the bars over a window, as we had somewhat reinforced the door

Best chance apparently, not definate though, of legally catching them, is cctv !

We are having the problem of do we make it look very secure, so generally its not worth attempting a break in, or does it then look like we are protecting something of great value:(. When all we want is not to find a mess in every room and a smashed in door or window:mad:

    infa red cctv:eek:

    Cheers DC.

Yes this is the question isn't it. The pc was talking to me about alarm signs I did wonder the same hting.

My Dad has put pretty meaty lock on the door now. He suggested I gave it sparay with soem spray paint....as like you say...you are pretty much telling people ther is stuff of value in there  + leaving lights on......are you letting them see where they are going??

He went to out local hard are store (they are not cheap but you ahve to say they are pretty thorough) and explained the case. They sold him the same lock/clasp arrangement they use for their sheds etc and in fairness its another size or two up from the last one, mostly enclosed by thick metal so you can't get a bar in .

I wish I had had a cctv camera ruuing........just to see who the little gits were.

Thye only compensation out of this is that the old blower had had a LOT of hammer and it was only a matter of time before it was goign to need new bits (+the trimmer a dodgy on/off swicth (a st*lh speciality) ).

Anyway, like you say, a bit of a review now seems necessary.

The ins comp were very good, might not be so obliging if I have to ring them next week.....

Just thought to check on the long handled wire cutters...that was what went last time (with the strimmer)...

Yep, they 've gone.......cheeky c**ts (sorry ))

    This unbelievable.....

    1) did they need them for the next "job" they must have come with a pair! Irrellevant as suppose...

    2) that part of the garage looks like a bombs hit it (me not them)......finding those will ahve taken valuable extra seconds/minutes.

    3) three items says there was a pair working...not too surprising i guess.

Again, jjust spoke to the ins.....they have been pretty good.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry....my m/bike (ex my brother's...so quite £££ one) was in there too...they left that......kind.

Sorry about your break in. I had my homebroken into so I know what it feels like.

In terms of deterrent, you can probably stop the casual burglar or crack head burglar with alarms, lights etc.

What is much harder to protect against is the profressional e.g. the much publicsed break in of footballplayers homes. I would imagine they all had alaorms, security lighting and CCTV - the pros don't give a monkey as they can handle all of that.

In my case the police actually know who did it and even caught them later. However, they let them go asking forname and addresss as they hadn't yet gotten around to getting a full statement from me. Result - they are still at large as the names and address were false ( surprise, surprise)

    thanks

    yes

there is just soemthing about this that gets to you...the injustice of it if you like.

the local pc was ok, like you say i don't hold out much faith in the british legal system. If caught these guys prob get a couple of weeks comunity service or some thing. Serve half of that.

i'm just kinda of frustrated as ££ are tight anyway ....I just thought I was goign to make it through. These expenses (ins excess etc)have messed me right up.
