My boss found out I'd recently been dabling in Jazz! He called me into the office as I was leaving! Oh dear I thought!

    "so you're into Jazz then?"

"well, not so much into, just starting to investigate it, find the style I thin ki'll like MOst"

"well this may be of interest to you"

He handed me a booklet thingy about Brecon Jazz 2003 and told me to check it out! Anyone any experience? I know only a few of the names in there (thought all the greats were dead? ;) ) but by all acounts it seems like a very good event!

Maceo Parker is funky as feck, but more funk than jazz. Otherwise it looks like a bit of a niiice-fest, all a bit safe. Steve Grossman's probably worth seeing, and if you like Zappa the Zappatistas sound like they might be a laugh. What the hell is Max Boyce doing on the line-up!

Having seen MaceO Parker earlier this year - it's a great night out, and one of the MOre enjoyable of the >140 odd I've been to over the last 12 MOnths. Maybe some of the numbers could have been brought to a conclusion a little sooner - or been jazzed up a bit MOre - but overall it was pure class. As he said at the start "what do I play - 2% jazz, 98% the fuuuunky stuuuuuf". His band is excellent and tighter than....a very tight thing; have to say his sax playing is better than his singing though. Cannot believe this guy is 60 - seemed MOre like about 35.
