I will soon be looking to buy a new cd player. My budget is 200-300 £. I'm thinking Marantz 5400, NAD 521BEE, Cambridge Azur, Pioneer S-707 ... I will go and listen for myself, but any experiences and/or recommensations will be more than welcome.

Partnering equipment will be AMC 306d amp and Tannoy M1 spk.

    Thanks in advance,
    Thom

If it has to be new then try and get hold of a NAD c541i - old stock may be offer. Fine player indeed.

If s/hand is ok then there's a CD6000KI in the classifieds

i find that real cd players start with arcam or rega. new they tend to fall outside your budget but you can pick up a cd62t for £300 if you're quick.

i'll have to disagree with daytona, the cd62T is average at best IMHO, quality starts from cd82T with arcam and that IS a very nice sounding player
Havent heard the Rega cdp's but they do seem to have many fans but i dont think there are many knocking about for £300.Its ashame the cd6000ose isnt about any more, they were fine players and could be picked up for as little as £150  Nad cdps are quite nice, the c542 fits the bill nicely. Dont forget the cambridge audio azur 640, it employs wolfson DAC's in dual differential, similar to the £600 Arcam cd82T :p 2nd hand option, id get the cd6000 Ki sig from the classifieds, lovely all round decent player IMHO, i auditioned £1k machines to replace it but was left underwhelmed as the lowly Ki outperformed many of them in my ears.

High depreciation and upgrade fever in h-fi means you can pick up much better CDP for the budget you allocated.
