    hi everyone,

i have two runs of three meters of hifi speaker cable (biwire) and need to terminate it.

i would like it to look as "professional" as possible, ie, use nice spades for the speakers side and banana plugs for the amp side (4 spades and two bananas per cable).

i would also like to use good quality solder (if they need soldering, i hear some terminations dont use it these days), maybe even silver solder if that isnt too expensive, and some sleeve/fabric to cover them and make them look "nice"... :)

could you give me any advice on
    a) what are good vfm parts to get (solder, plugs, sleeves)
    b) where to get them from
    c) any specific blunder in terminating cables I should avoid

Thanks a lot for any help you can give me!

i've tried a lot of speaker cable terminations and to be honest my preferred method (sonically) is just a bare wire. not pretty (looking) but then how often do you look down the back of your amp / speakers?
    cheers

    julian has it right........

if you can get away with bare cables they will sound better than sticking a lump of base metal [unless there silver or copper] normally brass between amp and speakers.

The best 4mm plug are RS Stock no: 531-447 and loose the plastic bits, and add heat shrink to strengthen the solder joint.

Silver solder ......hum its a pig to use and is of questionable sonics I've never really heard it make a difference, but I use it just in case!

    Thanks guys.

Zanash, do you know where I can get hold of the plugs you mentioned?

And any idea where I can get sleeve/fabric to cover part of the cable (i know it has no impact on sound but it will make it look nicer) ;)

    Cheers!
