John McCrea of Cake does a guest perfromance on a Ben Folds CD I have, having never knowingly heard any of Cake's music I don't know what their like.

Amazon has the helpful "people who bought Cake also brought Ben Folds
Gomez, Weezer, Franz Ferdinand etc" link, is this true, what can I expect?

I can't download the Real clips from Amazon through my work firewall :(

Yep - I've got their album "Fashion Nugget" which IMO is brilliant. It has a particularly funny version of "I will survive". Hard to describe the sound but basically guitar based. Original though. The most 'similar' artist I would probably say is Beck.

When I saw the mention of the name, I couldn't remember what the cover was that they'd done, thanks for reminding me Michael... IIRC it was a minor hit at the time of its release.

AMG (sorry for quoting this database endlessly) catagorizes their output as geek-rock

The Distance is a great (single) track from the album that Michael mentioned. Their version of I will Survive was indeed funny and also a little larmoyant, which made it a fine cover song.
