They just don't appeal to me for various reasons (e.g. don't like the house-sound, don't like the looks/brand)

Well I'm very happy with my AVI Lab Series, the rave reviews are well justified IMHO. The list price is now £1,500, but they do occasionally turn up used on hififorsale.com and Ebay for around £950 - £1,100. It has great bass 'grip', soundstaging and detail resolution, but is very natural sounding and unfatiguing with it.

As you have a Belcanto DAC it seems only sensible to try their power amps. I also recommend Bryston.

There are also those small digital amps that for the life of me I can't remember the name of. They were mentioned in a thread a while ago with good response. I'm not thinking of the T-amp! Someone help me out here or it will bug me forever.

shengya spt100 / power amps + matching pre from cattylink. 800 DOLLARS so about 700 quid including shipping and duty (maybe less) leaving you with 700 to spend on cd's or a nice holliday.
pre is valve, power are valve / ss hybrids. sound lovely.
    havea look here:
    http://www.cattylink.com/

in english / news / 2nd page at the bottom. sorry won;t let me direct link.

    cheers

I'd listen to a Lavardin IS, your triangle speakers are an easy load IIRC and I think you may find the Lav works well with them.

Let's make my first post at least semi-useful although at the same time shameless by plugging my own kit :)

How about a used Krell Kav-300i. Hehe no I'm not selling mine but you can find them for around £1300-£1400 in excellent condition, although they are hardly going to be anything but being built like tanks, as pretty much anything Krell is.

Very powerful, fast, punchy, open and alround big sounding amp. This is the solid state intergrated to end all others if you like rock music and you like it delivered with uncompromising in your face power and venom, although beleive it or not the Krell can be quit delicate when asked.

I assume you've seen the ATC listed on www.hififorsale.com for 850 quid.

Expect the typical ATC even handed sound and if it's in good condition, then that's a good price!

£1,400 is a difficult price-point IMO. Not enough for a serious pre-power combo (need £2k really) and a bit of a no-mans land in integrated amp terms :(

That sum of money will buy you a nice valve amp though. Two integrateds I'd be looking at (amoungst many, many others) are:

Consonace M100S+ (RRP £1,600) - 300B's on a budget. Not much power though.

Pathos Logos (RRP £2,800?) - Hybrid amp. Might be able to get one used for £1,500. Got the sound, visual drama and plenty of grunt.

I'd also be researching amps past & present from Copland and Audio Research. Might get yourself a bargain!

£1400? you can get practically anything if you hunt for long enough - just depends on what type of sound you want.

nb - almost the same budget as me!

.. If I change my mind anymore, my head will spin!

The ATC is currently top of my list, with a kit amp.

Not much else is really jumping out, and I don't think I'm going to go with valves this time round.
