My CA840C has begun to skip after 15 - 20 mins of CD playing and sometimes at the start.

It does it on all CDs and after being left to cool down during the day.

The DAC section and Digital inputs work fine.

It's nearly 2 years old and hence out of warranty. I've opened it up and it appears that the underside of the transport isn't clamping the CD in securely enough to engage the drive mechanism. Moving the bottom half with my finger is enough to engage the drive and play music (I haven't connected it when I've been doing this.

Has anybody else experienced this or heard of it on this player?

Any ideas as to if I can get a a new transport mech and if so how much? I'll be asking Cambridge / Richer tomorrow.

I had a similar sounding problem with my Rotel - it was the little belt that opens and closes the drawer that was the problem. I replaced that and it worked fine. May not be that in this case - I'd speak to Richers as you say.

Tightened up the retaining screws on the underside which hold the springs that support the Laser Mech and cleaned the face of the laser

It seems to be okay now (touching some wood as I type).

    Thanks
