Just had a quick flick through hifi choice and I notice that cambridge audio are bringing out a cdp that has a 160 gig HDD and from the blurb it reads like it can be used like a SB, should retail at £500. Ive no idea about the quality of the software etc but intersting none the less.

This is a niche market CA could do well.
Nothing else out there other than couple of aging products from Yamaha and Terratec.

£300 would have been the right price :D

In terms of network audio, they're just jumping on the bandwagon. NAD already did, expect Arcam, Rotel, et al to follow suit. Adding those features is interesting, but just combining several existing devices into one.

I'm hoping somebody will eventually do a box that you can put your own hard drives into (upgradability is key, why pay £500 odd for only 160GB), with space for up to 4 S-ATA drives. The thing would have to be be remote controlled, have a balanced digital output and wired/wireless ethernet for loading files onto from your PC. I can but dream :D

Whats wrong with that? Or unusual for that matter.
Does seem a little expensive though.

with Yam and Terractec you can fit bigger H/Ds. But only upto a certain size.

In addition to features Will mentioned, H/D in a removable caddy in a half-hight bay will be useful. I have been using that in my PCs for ages to run different operating systems, take data from one PC to the other and for backups.

Optical drives for PC can read and write both CDs and DVDs. Why can't the hi-fi manufacturers do the same?

Im pretty sure it has ethernet capabilities and it is remote control. Im sure its only a metter of time before someone does the works, however Im not sure a cdp manufacturer will be too keen on going down this road ;)
