Can a £1200 cartridge be a good value?

    Dean,

Peter at Noteworthy is one of the good guys - a real enthusiast. Hell I even buy stuff from him!

    Hi Mike,

He seems it. I emailed him with regards high sensitive speakers and a few other things. He gave some very good replies and he was happy to help.

I heard a number of good things about his business.

    Andy,

I have recently heard the Ortofon Rondo Bronze, a seriously good cartridge that I could happily live with. For much more money, there are better cartridges still, as a comparison with a Lyra Skala showed.

But I was very impressed with the sound of the Rondo Bronze. It is one of the new crop of cartridges coming from Ortofon after the recent change in ownership. If the Bronze is any sign of the quality of the new Ortofon range, I would be tempted to wait for the new flagship Ortofon PW, due out in a couple of months, which should cost somewhere around your projected budget.

    Hi,

Peter Qvortrup will deal direct and offer 60 day money back if not happy. Audionote will dem at their place. I understand if you are after a Audionote system or many Audionote bits and bobs, they will dem at your place.

    Hi Markus,

I have seen details of the MC Winfeld. It seems to be on sale in the US for $3400. It will be interesting to see how it compares to the Jubilee and how much it costs in the UK. It looks very good.

I thought I remembered a price quote in Munich of around 2k €, which would have been around 1,350 quid. Apparently the price has crept up.

Well that sounded ok, the one on the AC with the Schroeder was much more expensive if I recall correctly.

Most certainly Keith. Admittedly my discount facilities are not as good as yours, what with you being a major high end distributor and all - but I get by. By the way, given that you are a major reseller - have you "resold" any of the kit you got as dem stock yet?

Most distributors appreciate the business - those that don't will snigger their way to bankrupcy in the long term. I sense Arrowhead thinks he is in the trade too.

I find everything you write funny Keith. Don't worry.

Still, have you sold any of your stock yet or are just just enjoying owning a decent hifi?

I only have enough bits to make it work! I am going to but the Allnic head amp next, heard it at Ralph's and it is very good, regards Keith.

Sorry for the late reply work is painful this week.

I'll answer backwards. My disatisfaction came from a broken cartridge but I was happy with it until then.

    The benefits are (and you'll have to excuse my lack of hifi language);
The ability to show differences between notes that didn't exist with the MMIII. Subtlety comes accross, and delicacy. Some guitar sounds so lovely that it beings tears to your eyes.

Then at the other end is what is commonly called dynamics. Things can and do make you jump quite a lot, very bombastic when it has to be.

To me it's just a bit more real and very involving.
