Hi - my uncle desperately needs to service his Beocentre 2200 and replace the MMC5 cart. Do you know anyone that is capable of servicing this equipment?

    Would be greatly appreciated.

I bought some stuff from a guy on Ebay a while ago who if I remember correctly serviced B&O stuff... if you want I can try and find his contact details; send me a pm.

IIRC the B&O carts are no longer available...and are unique to the deck. Ebay is your best bet but they fetch big money. There have recently been some NOS ones at close on £200.

He's in East Sussex Zanash - Bexhill to be precise.

Owl, I'd greatly appreciate his contact details

Paul - apparently there is an offically licensed B&O re-manufacturer who charges $230 for a new MMC5! Ouch! Not sure he'd be willing to spend that much to listen to Val Doonican's greatest hits on the black stuff!

You can try here for a replacement cart:

    http://www.musonic.co.uk/

The MMC5 is no longer available but you can use the MMC4E in it's place, although it is £170.00.

Cheers Goomer. I emailed a guy called Tim who is apparently an ex B&O service engineer (through beoworld.com) and he told me to shelve the idea of getting it serviced:

This is probably not worth doing. The pickup alone is well over £100 and the 2200 wasn't B&O's finest hour by any means, they didn't even make them themselves. There is a chance that the hybrid amplifier chips may fail (they are not very reliable) and they are no longer obtainable, making the long-term outlook for the system as a whole dubious. I would recommend that you buy a tidy used Beocenter 7000 / 7002 / 7700 instead and spend the money on that, at least then you end up with a proper high-quality unit. If you do not need the cassette facility then the 3500 may be worth a look as well, or perhaps even the 1800. All of these were made in B&O's own factories in Denmark.

I think it'll be a trip down to Argos for him next week!!

    Vintage B&O engineer you say?

If an old engineer with B.O. will do, send me a PM.
