    Hi,
I've got an old Marantz 1050 that makes a short audible buzzzz when you switch it on.

I think it's probably best I replace the big capacitors.

    They are 47V 6800uF

Can anybody reccomend some replacements. Maplin preferably.

    Thanks

A short humm isn't so unusual, it's just caused by the heavy inrush current as the caps charge initially.

The caps you link to will be fine; if you have a choice, go for the highest voltage-rating that will fit, which will (for electrolytic caps) minimises ESR and leakage currents. So yes, 63v is better than 47v parts

I'm only over in Bath (and work in Bristol), give us a shout if you need a hand :)

    Thanks mate.

It's actually quite a big buzz noise. having the volume down makes no difference.

I should be fine changing them. Just wanted to double check before I spent a tenner on an old amp!

    Cheers.

    GAH! Help!

I got hold of the new capacitors. However when I removed the old ones I found they were 3 pin not 2!!! Doh!

I now can't seem to find replacements.

Can anybody suggest some or perhaps it is possible to convert the circuit to take 2 pin caps???
