The cat is right - I had said early that my cars were 1991 and 1994 models. :)
Both loved and I like older cars. Modern stuff has got (IMO) sterile.

Most scrapyards will collect your car and pay you £100, if it was post-1995 they pay up to £200.

Not by one of those no. ;)

I do sometimes take one of my cars to performance and classic shows, so have had a good nosey at some other classics. Some really special stuff that is sooooo lovely. Such a shame people want to drive them into the history books.

Oh - we are off topic somewhat though so perhaps we should exit this thread now. ;)

Just had the thing MOT'ed got a large list of failures but its all pathetic stuff and most of it I can fix in seconds, wipers, reg plate bulb but it does need new brake pipes and new rear brakes adjusting so I leave that to my machanic.

The engine passed its emisions with flying colours and they said it was as good as a new engine (not bad considering it has 71k on the clock).

It is a very nice car to drive (its the same chasis the Ka/Puma) and I prefer it to the modern Clio I drive which is lifeless.

For this reason I am going to spend £150 on the MOT, another £150 on the clutch and another £100 on tryes, ok it seems mad spending £400 on a 10 year old FIesta but after that I will know all the pads, wishbones, brake pipes, tryes etc are all in perfect working order so the car is 100% safe, it is simply a better option than spending £800 on a car which is unkown.

It is just in too good condition to scrap.

I still feel guilty about scrapping my old car, but knowing the starter was siezed, the piston rings were worn and I had put buddy filler in a load of rust holes it was really the kindest thing for her, I feel guilty as I sold to a trader thinking it was going for scrap, only for it to be put back on the road only for the poor customer who bought it of him to realise it needed a new engine. It was scrapped two months after I sold it.

The Yamaha Zetec engine is a great engine however they have some hidden problems on the second hand market which is not present on the old Endura unit. One of them is the cambelt which is a £250 job (more than this clutch slave cylinder problem) and the valves tend to sieze if too thick oil is used.

The Endura units will happily do 100k (another 3 years in my car) after that you can still get a good 10k out of it or more it will just be noisy and drink a lot of oil.

I think one of the main reasons the Endura as a short life is people just neglect them (e.g tappets). You still see millions old 14 year old Fiesta's with this old engines for this reason, you can neglect them and they will still run and run, modern engines you can't do that with.
