    Hi

My mum should be getting a Focus toMOrow. She wants to change the cassette player for a cd one.

Any suggestions on where best to shop?

Yep but she will need to buy a convertor because the standard one will be a unique fit one. The convertors cost around £20. A good local specialist should be able to supply a half decent head unit, convertor and labour for around £120. My mate got a Panasonic CD head unit fitted in his Fiesta for £100 inc labour.

I just replaced the speakers but this is an early MK3 Fiesta. A Focus should have pretty decent speakers already unless she is a car audio freak.

I would buy the head unit from an on-line shop, and pay your garage or similar just for fitting.

The alpine unit I got cost about £70 online, but was about £150 in all the shops.

I thoruoughly reccomend alpine on a bang per buck basis.

Fitting is a piece of cake. The mounting is DIN E and an adaptor is available for the connector. The Focus facia adaptor appears to be a simple one that simply covers up half of the opening and is available in black or silver to suit. Several online car audio dealers have them.

I have a Panasonic CQ1300 which I think is great. I chose it because is has a knob rather than buttons for vol/bass/treble/bal/fade.
I've had good results with Kenwood in the past too.

As AT says, the speakers are most likely fine.
