    Hi Scott_01

The Tubaphon are good cartridges. I was recommended one one I got my Avid turntable. This EMT based cartridge should offer very good dynamics.

    I hope so.

It was Richard at Vantage Audio who first suggested it to me. It took me a long time to get hold of one though.

I'll post my thoughts when it gets paired up with my TT (SP10 MKII, w DV505 / re-wired EPA100)

    I can't wait.

    Hi Scot_01

I see you have a SP10 MKII. What plinth have you got with it? Did you buy it with the deck? Nice arm.

Hmm...Scott, that is the very EMT I was thinking of; where did you get yours?

All this cartridge talk is tempting me to get my Decca London Gold out again and give it a try.Does anybody know a site that goes in to setup detail for this cartidge?

    Mine was listed on ebay:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=120138057581&rd=1&rd=1

I was the highest bidder but didn't meet the reserve. I contacted the guy (Dieter) afterwards and he sold for 700 Euro inc insured delivery, which I think is a good deal as long as it is as good as it looks.

Also try ebay.de, there are usually a few or:

    http://www.hifido.co.jp

That said, I've never managed to figure out what is actually for sale, what has been reserved by deposit and what is 'under offer' on that particular site. Loads of really nice kit on there too. Jap stuff usually great value (even v expensive stuff, 'exclusive', 'esprit', 'micro') euro and US kit v expensive. They respond to e-mails in English.

If you try ringing Richard at vantage audio, I think he can strip down a standard TSD/XSD for you if you get hyold of one of those:

    I've got the obsidian base.

I am Scotish and hence a bit tight so my deck, arms and base were separate ebay purchases which would have been great value.

    Base: 200UKP from states
    TT: 250UKP from Australia
    DV505: 490UKP from Australia
EPA100 380UKP from Honk Kong (needed some work on it, not a great buy TBH)

But.........the base arrived in several bits and the Motor unit was in a bit of a state. The seller must have taken the picture of the best 1 of 5 he was selling. So.....

    http://vantageaudio.com/info/KL20.htm

This probably warrants a separate thread. Richard has been OUTSTANDING, as has Johnnie at audio origami (for the arm). I posted a bit about this on Vinyl asylum too. When I eventually pick up my kit I'll put some more pics up.

Very nice. I'm in the same boat waiting for an SP10 to arrive from the States. That Murray geezer has a lot ot answer for! One minute I was going to buy a Verdier then he spoke to me.

Shame about your plinth and I hope it's OK now. I've still got to build mine, waiting for the template. Aluminium and a rare hardwood the trees of which some brave men risk life & limb climbing steep sided mountains to get to & cut bits off eh Murray?

Actually has anyone got some arm porn out there as I need to make a decision next week?

If you want to see how it looked a few weeks ago try the vantage link in my last post mate.

I was very tempted to get a stonemason (i.e. gravestone mason) to build me a plinth a'la slatedeck but for less than 1500 quid. But I love the way the obsidian looks. Thinking of the RDC cones to replace the feet though.

Anyway, back to carts... Can't see the cantilever on this IKEDA

That's 'cause there is no cantilever. The construction is modelled on the Decca, the needle sits on a yoke which carries the coils and is mounted on rubber blobs.

This is more the "under the counter - brown paper bag" type of porn - but music to the ears of a sheltered generation...

I've got an Asak (and a Troika, and an Asaka, and a Karma). You can take the metal can of it and make it all sexy and nude you know (just as mine is) :).

The Koetsu looks stunning as ever. Murray, what is it you don't like about Koetsu in general? I have fond memories of my Onyx on an SME V.

    Right. Come on Tony.

Not the faintest clue! I've never seen one before, it looks old (and heavy) though. It's not some ancient 60s EMT is it?

    Tony.
