that all makes for reasonably logical reading and sets a good case for the cartridge based on method of signal generation.

but there's one 'big' assumption in there. that the best way to generate a signal, via movement and magnets, is identical but in reverse to the best way to generate movement from a signal via magnets.

thats kind of like assuming a light bulb is going to be the best photoreceptor, though a wildly removed example.

can anyone else think of any other electric apparatus that work in reverse, motors-generators etc.

    i kinda like it..

    Keith,

I got mine around 2 years ago, it was one of a few final prototypes from Allnic. The diamond stylus tip on the production version has an improved profile, so said they.

    Regards

Loudspeakers & microphones. Same principle but hardly interchangeable.

Coops, I'm only kidding. It will be interesting to hear that cartridge one day though. Some different thinking.

Hi Keith, Hangook is where it's at these days, and this cart is supposed to be excellent! At only half-a-million wonga, I might get somebody to pick one up in Seoul. grivois

I can't see how it doesn't need RIAA correction at all, unless I've read it wrong.

That has to be FUD. The RIAA eq .is on the record after all.

I'm pretty sure it's just in the wording. I suspect a custom profile strain guage to take into account RIAA would cost much more than the cart retails at.

I'm also suprised at the bandwidth, the accelerometers I've seen only go upto 10khz

Yeah but it does quite clearly state: "No RIAA, just a gain stage". Hmm....

The price of the Allnic cartridge was given as 500,000 won in 2004. That's about 270 quid. Let's see what the price in Europe will be.

Would be interesting to get a proper explanation for sure. I don't know about strain guages - when you say "profiled" is it possible that they already have an appropiate response?

    It's 'possible' but not likely.

The only way I can see this working is to use the resistance of the strain guage to vary the output of a fixed voltage source.

Has anyone had the chance to hear one of these?

Joel, any idea of it's price in Japan?
