Don't pay top dollar for the Shure ! It is a great cart but can be found for much less than the RRP of £300 especially on e-bay. Sourcing from a euro seller will probably gain less attention from C&E too.

A second for the Shure, be warned it is a fragile thing with it's beryllium cantilever.

    bling fi

    it certainly does,
but it is a smashing little cart.
i think i'd may be go for the denon depending on phono stage and wether more oomft being required in which case the newer oc9 is great.
if a linn arm is involved deffo the oc9.
if another arm maybe the others would be better.
    hope this helps.
    good luck.

Is that Denon a low or high output type, do you know? - I just had a quick look on their site and it doesn't say either way.

    hi goomer

it is very low so you need a low noise system with high gain.
    regards.

Its very low output. Thanks for all the replies so far, I am actually quite scared now of fragile carts., having knackered a karat 17, and also a cantliever of another dv10 fell off 2 weeks after I sold it

sadly the shure has ceased production, I don't know if they will make a replacement.

that needledoctor is a good site, must say, I do fancy a sumiko pearwood, bit beyond me atm, tho.

    Key words :)

Although he doesn't have any cartrdiges for sale at the moment , i have bought a spare VN5 xMR off this USA based e-bay trader and would definately buy from again - no problems whatsoever. Only charged me 9 bucks for UPS shipping too.

hmmm...should work with Naim 'k' boards then, I think. I might be tempted to give it a go as a replacement for the Kontrapunkt when it dies. Either that or the AT OC9, anyway. Thanks for the info.

    have you dismissed the denon?

£175 delivered from ian harrison. i'm really enjoying mine. true about the output though 0.18mv i believe. i would be interested to hear what you end up with and how it sounds.
fwiw-ian harrison personally warned me off the shure fromanyone other than a cart dealer. apperently they are now being made in mexico and there are QA issues that are hard to resolve/prove after the purchase.
