just received latest AudioCandy mailing (how did I manage that ???) in which David Allcock carries out a 'CD mats group test'. SID does well at £18 but the more expensive (£60 and £125) Marigo 3d mats get the vote.

What is that all about? Any supporters?

If this hs been done to death, pl point me to the thread and I'll crawl away ...

David Allcock is highly amusing. Don't take him seriously.

The 'elliptical sound stage' was a dead giveaway.

    "All cock" is the giveaway.

I've never used a CD mat, but I know of at least one person who has and ended up with it inside his CD player.

I have the Sid14 since the Heathrow show but never had the time to do a test. The 14 is small for my player therefore the cap doesn't stay in the right position. When I have time I'll do some tests and report over here.
In the german forum most of the members who reported had good experiences.

From what I've read, but have no grounds for believing - hence this posting - CD mats go in the CD draw along with the CD you want to play, though whether on top or underneath I dont know. It says that Ringmat think they are curing static build up, SID and the other manufacturer think they are 'dampening the disc and ensuring constant reflectivity'.

... but then I still dont know how to use snake oil to get better results

In that mag is a review of CD labelers, its the alphabet that can clip onto the side of CD cases.

Apparently it was two years of research and development LOL

I've spotted that before; I think I'll apply for the job of researching the MkII version :D.

The various CD mats/braces all go on top of the CD IIRC (if they went underneath they'd get in teh way of the laser), and so could be used just the same for top loading CD players I think. That said, I don't frankly believe they'd do anything good, and would be worried about the extra stress they'd be putting on the spinning motor of the CD player.

Here's a song for you, one you put in the top 20, "the stop-light pen outperforms the SID" and that from a Peter belt sheep :D
They don't sit in the teac transports well either (so I'm told)
