I'm after a stereo amplifier, a CD player and some speakers for a total of £1500.

Floorstanding speakers are a bonus, but not essential, as is Cyrus gear of any description.

I'm looking to spend about £500 on each item, unless something really nice comes up.

    I'm based in London.

    Thanks for looking

    Tom

    Tom,

I have a NAD Silverline S500 CDP on sale for £500. Storming CDP, would still set you back £1100 new today. Fully boxed with manual. Fabulous piece of kit.

    Doug.

I had a look at your ad actually, and I was wondering the difference between the 'i' and your version. Does it play CDRs and copy protected CDs?

I've had no problems with any CDs. There were problems with the early batches. I had an early batch machine and returned it, so I know that mine is the later batch that has no problems with anything.

The S500i basically introduced a load of superfluous crap like random play and the like, that you use once and then forget about.

The S500 is more pure to NADs design philosophy - put your effort into the sound, not the flashy lights and fancy knobs.

Nor I with my S500, although very occasionally it seems to decide it doesn't want to read the TOC of a given disc - ejecting it then sticking it back in again always sorts it out though. Probably just wants the lens cleaned or something.

MG_CAR, I think I'm going to stick it out and wait for a cyrus amp.

funkyboogaloo, your speakers look really nice. How much did you pay for them originally? I'm in London, so delivery might be a problem.

Rosso, nice as the classik is, I'm not really after that sort of setup.

DAD7 is that? If so, perhaps... I'm not sure if a top loading CD player is practical.
