having tried various cdp's with both xlr outputs proper balanced circuits and seperate out put circits for rca, both not bridged by the same in or outputs, i found to my taste that xlr is better providing that the pre or integrated has the same facility, any coments from you guys?

Yep, my experience too. Not a hugely enourmous difference, but at least in my system less noise and thus better air and separation.
Additionally, in the test I did, using better cabling was less important than with single ended connections.

Where possible, I'd now make sure that I used balanced.

Well, my CA 840c has true balanced out and is pretty close to what I considered my reference - dpa E-transport and SX128 DAC, which was single ended, but considerably more costly. Given the nature of balanced circuits the cable 'quality', if I can use such a term (!) is much less important.

i use balance xlr's both run of the mill and expensive ones to compare, i found that the expensive ones had more to offer on all frequencies , how ver the separation was the same, no change still superve,

Second the 840C which unusually at this price point has real balanced outputs as opposed to the usual quasi-balanced.

I don't think the issue is important though where you have the option - very subtle effect at best.

I must admit that I can hear a fair difference between single ended cables but couldn't really convince myself ;-) of a great deal of difference between well constructed XLR terminations.
That said I'm using a dpa black slink cable at the moment.
