Agreed. This is a very good album. IIRC this was released about 10 years ago. Sent one of my mates out to pick it up for me the day it was released - got the free T-shirt as well!

    Hi Lefty/Stuart

    Interested in this album.

I dont yet comprehensively have all of jimi's normal releases. Its hard to differentiate between them and the wealth of not-so-great re-releases that have happened since his death.

What would you say are the best jimi albums in descending order of fantasticness?

(just want to make sure I get them in a decentish order!)

    Hi Bottleneck,

I'm probably biased since, as mentioned earlier, I'm more a fan of Jimi in his blues guise. IMO Jimi was a much better musicain when he wasn't off his face on drugs and smashing his guitar up on stage

There is no better illustration of this than on the blues CD on the track "hear my train comin'" There are 2 versions of this track on the CD: the acoustic version that was recorded in '67 in a photography studio, and the electric version that was recorded live on stage in '70 (I think)

Anyway, the frist is a much more intimate and musical version so rich in the emotion conveyed by great blues music. On the second version however, Jimi sounds as though he's performed the song a million times and so his vocal delivery is completely emotionless. Sure the second one sounds more "flashy" and more like "Jimi", but it loses so much from that earlier performance.

If you don't own any of Jimi's records, I would suggest starting out with this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...564486/sr=8-1/ref=pd_ka_1/026-6725763-2939629

I know this is a strange way of selecting good albums from bad ones, but in the case of Hendrix, it seems to be a good rule ot thumb. Try to avoid any releases with multi-coloured writing or tacky looking front covers! Below is a perfect example:

Apart from that, they're all pretty good.

    Chris,

I really wouldn't know where to start. I very rarely apply any method or thought whatsoever to music buying. I tend to cruise through shops and buy whatever takes my fancy at the time. As such, you'll simply have to buy whatever Jimi records cross your path - or take Lefty's advice.

    Regards,

    Stuart.
