    CELEF PE1 Standmount Speakers

These very fine speakers are by Celef - the precursor firm to Proac. In fact they look (& sound) remarkably like my old Proac Response 2 speakers - one of my all-time faves, and which I guess is why I am selling them (see below).

These are 25 inches tall and about a foot square. Very solid and heavy - I would guess about 40-45 lb. The RRP for these was £500, 20 years ago - a very serious speaker this!

    An 8 inch woofer, a 1 inch (or so) tweeter and a piezo-electric super-tweeter.

These sound excellent - clear transparent detailed and with excellent bottom end weight and definition, dynamics are a joy to behold just like my old Proacs
    - and at my asking price of £200 (what I paid for them) are a true sonic bargain.

Excellent condition - there is a slight discolouration/mark on top of one of the speakers, and the grill cloths could really do with replacing (the frames are fine). And they are in perfect working order.

NOTE: the stands in the photo are NOT included in the sale.

CASH ON PICKUP (Gloucestershire) or I may be able to deliver, pls ask.

Why am I selling? - I've only just bought them ;)
Well, they sound very much like my old Proac Response 2 - the wife even said "they're Proacs aren't they?" - and I find that, excellent as they are, I want to explore different things! I'd actually like to keep them but I really do need some space for further speaker explorations.

Not far off, actually, Mr Legzr1! :) .... probably 4 or 5 by now ....

.... but I've contacted the Celef speakers' new owner, Lil, to see if he is interested in selling them on. I'll get back to you with his response, or he may contact you directly.

I remember a pair of Celefs I had years ago, with a HUGE metal horn ribbon tweeter! The ribbon must have been 2" long and the whole horn about 8" across and very heavy! I don't remember the model, but they were £1k in a hifi shop in the 70's.

My friend bought them as 'loss-leader' in a sale for £100, but had his hifi stolen several times; they never took the speakers as they were so heavy! He sold them to me, finally.

    They were nice speakers!

And here is the new owner :D

Like Jerry, I have recently moved on to another pair of speakers - some IMF TDL50s in fact (unlike Jerry, only the 1 pair of new speakers is involved):JPS:

Yes, I am sure I could be persuaded to move these on if you are interested, on essentially the same terms as Jerry has outlined above.

Thanks for the heads-up Jerry :MILD:

    No problem. :)

... and for the record, I can confirm that Aural Flea did indeed buy the speakers off me!

I am interested. What sort of price would you be asking? Also, can you describe the sound a bit? I listen to all sorts of music, but I make electronic music, so bottom end definition is an issue. Currently listening to Epos ES11s on a Sugden A21a, which are very tight and detailed.

are these Celef speakers still available?

Celef became Proac, and there are very few Celefs available now...the cabs used to split on the joints, and newer drive units are much more accurate.
