I wasn't aware that the thread had been closed until I read Andy's thread entitled 'Post Deletion'.

Of course, it's your forum and you can choose to close whatever threads you see fit. However, I have to say that closing this thread ('Day 16 since the Tsunami and the UN has distributed ZERO on the ground') shows a lack of judgement and merely illustrates your own bias and prejudice.

You have stated that the Diplomad site is ill-informed, anti-UN propaganda yet you haven't given any substantive evidence that this is so. Nor have you made any effort to deny the substance of its claims. Of course, as Andy said, it was totally inappropriate for you to compare criticisms of the UN's performance following the tsunami disaster with those who deny the occurrence of the Nazi Holocaust.

I started the thread in question and, although it may have been a little controversial, it certainly prompted people to think for themselves.

As people thinking for themselves is clearly something that you don't feel comfortable with on this forum, I will not be taking any further part in Zero Gain. I hope that anyone who wishes to contact me in the future will know where to find me.

Thank you Michael, for the work that you have put into this forum. I have enjoyed my visits here and considered this forum my natural home in hi-fi. It is with regret that I leave.

That's utter rubbish and you know it. People will think for themselves regardless of any threads on this forum.

I don't believe it was. Just as your thread was deliberately provocative I responded in a similarly deliberately provocative way. My response was in part to show that I simply don't have the time to dig around the net for information to counter your claims and I find it almost insulting that I should have to counter such ridiculous claims anyway in the same way as you (or anyone else for that matter) would no doubt find it insulting to have to counter holocaust denial claims.

Everyone is biased and prejudiced in their own way. As I said in the other thread, I don't run this forum out of my own pocket in order for it to be a mouthpiece for neo-con propaganda which I find abhorrent. However, your original thread is still in place and people can read it. I deleted one single post by penance which was just a rant at myself and bringing nothing new to the table. You and penance had already started talking about kippers so it was fair to say the thread had run it's natural course anyway so I closed it. I would hardly describe that as censorship.

It's primarily a hifi forum and, unlike some other forums that censor certain topics from the outset, people can discuss whatever hifi related topic they like here.

I'm sorry you feel it necessary to leave. It's been good having you around and I've enjoyed the vast majority of your postings. I hope you will reconsider your decision.

    Michael.

    You will regret doing this.

If it was a hasty mistake, just reinstate the thread, no one will think the less of you, in fact the opposite.

    Regards

    Mick

I've taken your advice Mick and re-opened the thread. It remains to be seen whether that was a wise decision or not. It's unlikely that I will participate in it further.

You have shown good judgement and hopefully Steve will do the same and come back.

    Well done, Michael.

Steve, I think you've been over-reacting a tiny bit. Given Michael's explanation, I don't see why you should need to leave this forum.

    Yes, Thank you Michael.

Hello boys. It's good to be back. I missed you. :D

PS: Yes, my "people thinking for themselves" comment was a little silly. Sorry.

penance, may I suggest that you just ignore James? Otherwise it's just going to get silly again.

Having read the link it seems like the correspondent is well placed to offer his view and presents some compelling points, in his position he is no doubt a worthy commentator. Its just a shame he comes across so badly. Slinging the word 'lefty' into the article at every opportunity and forever knocking the UN in favour of the US and Australia, making them out to be regular Mother Theresas, makes it pretty hard to take as evidence. We must remember that to build up a comprehensive view of a situation we must consider all evidence, hence the calls for some more reasoned criticism of the UN from other sources.

If the subject had been different (Cables anyone!?) you all would have been shouting for more evidence rather than taking this guys rantings as the full story.

I don't think you can criticise Michael for deleting a thread which resorts to directly insulting him. This is not Big Brother behaviour as some of you have suggested...more like a guy wondering why he pays to host a forum where the contributors give him shit.

At the end of the day the link is hardly worth spitting your dummy over. It reminds me of Piers Morgan staking his career on those dodgy pics from Iraq. There must be more level headed arguments about the UNs behaviour to make a stand over.

A very good post, perhaps should have been better posted in the other thread. Fully agree with you.

    Michael, already done, again!
I did think it was worth the benefit of the doubt, but obviously he is still holding a grudge, or unable to grow up. A shame people like that keep coming back.
