    Just telling AT (and you) how it is Michael, proven fact and what all good CH engineers follow to ensure that no bacteria or other nasties build up. Can give you plenty of links if you want proof.

    If you would have read the original post he said "I suspect it must be a faulty thermostat, I tried turning it down on the water tank but its made no difference at all" as such his system has a water storage tank, what it's heated by isn't important in this context.

    Really it shouldn't mater anyway, if 60oC is safe enough for use on tanks, it's probably best with combis to to prevent the same build up in pipes etc, if it has a hot water storage tank, that is what it should be set to, end of story.

    I would say its at least 65c, it does burn you the second you touch it.

    Meanwhile I guess my parents need to save up to get it serviced and I can replace the TRVs in the mean time.

    With regard to a new boilier my mates parents have had a combi one fitted for £1500 including new radiators and removal of the now redundant hot water tank. It is a small house though.

    PS Ours is noit a combi boiler, its an ancient Glow-Warm space saver of 1984 vintage. Having said that my grandmas is 1979 and my aunties is from 1930 and there is a room in the basement called the boiler room :D

    My Central Heating tale of woe;

    Had the system fitted new 3 ½ years ago to replace crappy , ineffective and expensive Electric storage heaters. It is a combi boiler . The first thing that i noticed was that it introduced huge snaps, crackles, pops and grumbles into my Hi-Fi system whenever it turned on. I called the manufcturer tech help out as it was under warranty and they replaced the PCB mother board. This didn't fix the fault but seem to reduce it slightly.
    I then set about installing a dedicated and electronically filtered Hi-Fi mains spur to fix this and any other problems which i don't honestly think actually did much with hindsight.
    Everything was fine until 13 months ago when the PCB board died . Luckily my system came with a 5 year parts and labour warranty when i bought it. The installers fitted a new PCB board and everything worked again , i was without GCH & HW for 10 days - not happy! . BTW, it is about £250 - £300 to supply and fit this PCB, about 3 weeks ago my GCH & HW stopped again. The gas fitter came out and straight away diagnosed a faulty PCB. Due to general stupidity the wrong 'Mark' of PCB was ordered twice , so again i was without Hot water for over a week ! They fitted a new PCB and everything worked fine as soon as it was switched on again. This is now the 4th PCB that has been fitted to my Boiler and I'm not convinced that it will last any longer than the previous ones.

    I have now insisted that both the installers and the Manufacturer come round to my house and do something, there is no way that i want to be stuck with a boiler that is going to cost £250 to fix every 12 -14 months. Personally i reckon that the same electrical spikes that i can hear through my Hi-Fi system are probably trashing the PCB in the Boiler control box. It is probably a solenoid or something o a fan or valve that needs supressing harder. Basically i think that the boiler electrical hardware is destroying its own electronic hardware.
    Luckily i still have 18 months of warranty left to sort it out .

    The Brand of my Boiler ;

    Worcester - Bosch, avoid them like the plague.
