I'm aware it's very important to get a sonic match between centre and front speakers in 5.1.
I've recently had success building cabs for a couple of KEF fullranges (CR160f). They are 21L, so largish bookshelves. Have played them a bit in stereo and like them. They don't have a specific system to go into apart the AV one. This is currently a yamaha sub/sat system.

So I have a couple of questions. Will these KEFs fit well into the system? Maybe I should just try them eh. But would I be able to tell without a matched centre? Which leads to the question of which centre to go for. I'm defo looking for 2nd hand, and also KEF. The drivers are pre-uniQ, so should I go for an older centre? looking to spend under £100.

Can't remember the model of amp. New about 6 years ago (guessing). No pre outs. Would be keeping the sub and prolly rears (although might put some carppy hitachi bookshelves on them).

Also, very sure the KEFs aren't shielded, how close can I put them to my TV?(sony widescreen, tube)

I don't think anyone can answer your questions because we don't know what your DIY speakers sound like. We also don't know what your Yamaha system sounds like, especially without knowing which model it is etc..

I would suggest you try to get another CR160f and build another speaker just the same as your stereo pair to do centre duties.

ok, fair enough. Is it possible to shield speakers DIY? And what's a safe distance for unshielded from a tv(tube)?
