just built a new kitchen/diner, equiped with a squeezbox, Pioneer A400X amp and MS MS10i wall-mounted speakers.

The problem is the bass. In the old kitchen the speakers were fine but the new one is much bigger and they just can't fill it. Don't want biiger boxes, and can't change the spk cable as it's behind the plaster.

So I'm thinking of getting a cheap sub. Budget is miniscule (<£50) but there may be some unappreciated bargains out there. Doesn't need to be hifi, cos it's mostly background listening.

Any ideas? Any fairly decent cheap subs that get overlooked?

well, with that kind of price - in my experience I had an eltax 12" jobbie - complete with remote...I then upgraded to my velodyne - the eltax wasn't that bad to be honest especially since I only paid 40 quid for one...
I also had an 8" eltax - but that was crap...

You may be able to pick up a Rel Q50 on ebay for 50-100 as these are starting to get on a bit, although still very good.

How big are you looking to go ?

    cheers

I was thinking of putting it in a kitchen cupboard and firing it downwards, through a hole in the cupboard floor, so a downward firing unit would be better.

probably about 45cm wide would be my guess although I'll measure it up tonight.

I think you'd be much better off to do what you're reluctant to, and change the MS speakers for something with more bass..

    thats my 2p

I've got some Kefs in the garage so I may try them to see if that improves matters. The thing is I have a soft spot for subs.....
