Any suggestions for stands for my new Von Schweikert VR-1 (8" x 11") pending delivery of some "proper" stands. Really just something to get 'em off the ground !!

Try IKEA or maybe some breeze blocks from your local DIY store

    Hi,

Why don't you try stacked upturned milk crates. I used these when I was a student. It did the job until I got some stands.

Upturned plastic buckets, available at minimal cost from Wilkinson or Woolworth. Choice of jolly colours too.

Yeah, but the breeze blocks will be less resonant and will aid with mass damping and if you want to match them into your rooms decore you could always paint them. Or maybe the VR1 like light lossy stands.

    Oh desicions desicions eh :D

    Thanks for your suggestions:D

Jeez, I'm having trouble getting utterly fabulous veneers on outstandingly cute and extremely (well relatively) discreet cabinets past the other half.

I can see me getting upturned buckets in the lounge :p :D

So Ok, how about cheap as well seasoned saute potatoes ?

What about concrete pillars used for planters, could then be used in garden when finished.

Alternatively take some 18mm mdf cut out (this is for one stand ie each) rectangle 1 inch bigger all round than your speakers, then another 2 rectangles progresively 1 inch smaller all way round stack these together evenly so that they resmble stairs on each side glue together and leave to dry obtain some Cardboard cores from your local carpet store and cut to roughly height of speaker stand cut out disc of mdf to fit inside this core snugly and glue and screw this circle to centre of 3 pieces of mdf you made earlier and make sure you put it on the smallest one, do same for base you could possibly make squares bigger and screw in spikes to each of for corners so biggest square is on bottom and circle is again on smallest glue cut carpet core to circle and fix with screws if you like then plaice other sqares on top with largest square upermost , before you place3 top on fill column with sand and paint a fetching colour, plonk speakers on top and wait for shop bought to arrive, shouldn't cost any more than a tenner plus spikes (which are optional), hope this is not to confusing and you get the drift, they could be used as planters or lamp stands later, you could also cover them in modrock and make some wacky scultural look but ,........ I think I've gone and taken it too far.

I vote breeze blocks. I did it for a while and put spikes in the bottom blocks. With the spikes I bet they make some of the best stands regardless of money. I mean what's better than a solid lump of concrete? I think they look kind of cool as well.. retro or something.

If you are wondering how to put spikes in the blocks get a bit of thick mdf and put them in that then the blocks on top. Or.. like I did, drill a big-ish hold and fill it with araldite, then put the spike in that.

To stop any dust coming off them give it all a quick once over with watered down unibond.

Or stopp fussing around and go buy the proper stands!

His wife Wouldn't like that she thinks the speakers are uncool, or something. She would probably have a hairy fit if she came home and saw half adozen concrete blocks in her living room, this is not a batchelor pad remember.

Stay awake Tenny old chap  :) badchamp is waiting on delivery of some stands that are built to order and will take some weeks

I specialise in useless suggestions - as an alternative to paint, you could cover them in carpet instead :D
