I'm looking for a cheapo turntable, no more than £125 ex. shipping, as i dont really listen to vinyl enough to merit buying a more expensive one.

    Hi Mutant

I'm not the seller and can't couch for them but I noticed a NAD 533(rebadged Rega 2) on ebay just now with a buy it now price of £120.00 - don't know if that's of any use.

You can get REAL Rega 2's for less than that 2nd hand - Epay is usually waaaaay overpriced for Rega gear...

I have a NAD 533 though and it's not bad at all - the dour grey colour is way cooler than Rega's black...

    Eh, Mr Mutant,

I've got a Project 2 gathering dust in my attic room at the mo (http://www.henleydesigns.co.uk/project2.htm), not to be confused with a Project Debut II which is a lower end model.

Its got an Ortofon 530 II cart (an upgrade from the 510 II, they used to come with as std) and the interconnect has been upgraded from the standard skinny ones to some QED interconnects (can't remember the model no, but they were about £30).

RRP for the deck is currently £300 with a cheapy OM10 cart. The upgrades amount to mebbe £100 worth. There's about 200 hours on the stylus and the deck is in excellent condition.

Yours for £150 if you can collect.

No problems - I managed to flog it to my brother in law over the Christmas hols anyway. Hope the Technics was a worthy bargain :)

If the Technics is a real plasticcy thing and you want to upgrade on the cheap - the Trio KD1033, Pioneer PL12 and Sansui SR222 are all good budget Jap decks from the late seventies which whilst not quite as good as a Rega 2 will do the job pretty admirably and rarely cost more than 30 quid s/h. They come up fairly regularly on epay.

I used to have the Trio with an Ortofon VMS20E II and it sounded pretty good. There was nothing wrong with it, but it wound up in the skip when my ex wife decided we weren't listening to records anymore  . Needless to say I do still listen records and she is my EX wife :) . At least she didn't chuck the records away.
