Does that mean you're no longer on Dr Atkins or is this going to be a cheat week?

It used to be, Tom, not any more, there really is no such thing as a brand, now. It used to be a kind of stamp of quality, but now anyone can buy them up, impose their own way on it, and yet still cash in on the name.

Thanks for that tip, I am off to lidl to buy some.

Tell you what, I like french cheese, and aldi do some fantastic camembert and brie for a fraction of what you pay in sainsbury's/tesco.

I have half a theory these because they are german stores have better stuff, and a lot of the continentals won't accept the crap like a lot of the stupid british do. Its partly the shops fault giving us little choice, too. there is lots of choice as such, its just kak half the time.

I've been trying to convert people to Lidl's recently…the stuff is just sooooo cheap when you compare it to Tesco. Feta cheese is a great example…bargain in Lidl…absolute rip off in Tesco. The veg is good and far cheaper and theres plenty of other bargains to be had if you go in with an open mind and are prepared to go for something other than your usual favourite brands and get some random German brand instead. I'm partial to the hazelnut milk chocolate which is about 29p a bar…not amazing quality but tastes good with a cuppa. The fruit juices are pretty good too….i've a carton of Multivitamin juice on my desk right now…juice of 11 different fruits for 69p. In tesco they'd try and sell it to you for 1.50 or more. It's the perfect cure for colds and flu btw. I think its possible to do your weekly shop in there although you may have to pop to Tesco for a few items. Also Aldi is pretty good….I got a Heart Rate Monitor for 15 quid and some cycling stuff which is pretty good for the price….£3 for a cycling shirt. Nay bad.

The main thing is you've got to consider the fact that 1 in 8 pounds in the uk is spent in Tesco. That's just not healthy.

I paid 10 times that price for a Polar HRM. And as it's sealed they rip you off everytime you need the battery replaced.

Are you into Mountain Biking or Road ?

    Cheers

Im after the new 625x polar hrm with the distance + speed feature (total OTT for a runner of my bulk) - but I refuse to pay the stupid UK price (250 squids) - anyone know of an alternative or a better euro price?

Chocolate? My lifes passion (2nd only to music;)) - a local coffee shop (my 3rd passion) stocks a noir brand (which I never recall) they do a 77% content, something I pick up when I get my beans. Choccy and Coffee = a match made in heaven.

tip - dip your choccy into a mug of black coffee. Messy but worth it:)

    IAmBoy,

You'd never think this thread started about chocolate ;)

Do you know what the exact model name is for the Polar ? I can look around here and let you know, but my experience is that except for Camembert, pretty much everything is cheaper in the UK ...

As for chocolate over coffee, do I agree !

Edited: The first store I checked sells the S625X for 390 euros, that's almost 270 quid! I take it you are into running then?

Tom, I see in your public profile you describe yourself as a "retired hedonist".

My understanding of "retired" was "who no longer does" as in "retired teacher" (he who no longer teaches) ;)

£270!! - Crikey for once something cheaper in England!

I do run, but Im trying to get over a knee injury (6 months now:() - I also do weights which keeps me sane when I cant run - but I find it hard not to bulk up (must be all that chocolate). I'll check the polar price when Im in Finland next (could be february) or Turkey (should be mid Jan).

Cycling is softer on your knees ... but it usually hurts more when you fall

I'm into road biking Galahad....when the suns out! I also do a bit of indoor Nordic Skiing which is the main reason I bought the monitor as mine doesn't have a computer readout at all. Its good to be able to watch the heart rate and know how hard you're training. I also use it when cycling and its good to know what your average is and what you max at when hitting the hills.

The HRM is pretty good though...obviously I'd like one that plugs into a pc etc as I'm sure thats pretty interesting but the Aldi one has training zones, max, average and a few more bits which is all I really need. And when you consider price there really is no contest unless you intend to do some serious HR based training. Also comes with good guarantee and I've had no probs with it.

Polar are a rip off...they have had the market sewn up for too long...don't discount the Aldi one if all you need is a relatively basic HRM.

Well, I've had my Polar for a few years now. It came with a CD for downloading the data to a PC. Never used it.

I like the alarm feature, I set it at 160 and know that I have to soft pedal when I hear it, even if it means letting the pack go . Too old for this shite now anyway!
