Whats it about?

 

good film that ... coupla kids get mixed up in drugs and guns in a brazilian ghetto kinda film highly watchable even the wife enjoyed it and considering its subtitled thats a miracle

Brilliant film, partly because it uses real ghetto kids, rather than actors.

The TV mini-series "Children of God" is also superb.

Amazon and the like are full of reviews too.

There's a review somewhere that says something like, "It'll make you flinch, but you wont be able to look away".

The DVD extras are meant to be really good too, but I've not got round to watching them yet. Both a very powerful and entertaining film.

Yes, it is probably the most powerful moment in the film but it's shocking, disturbing and many other things besides but it's certainly not "wicked" (unless you intended the original non-slang meaning of the word that is).

It is a superb film though. I saw it here without subtitles and even though I consider myself fluent in Portuguese these days the strong Brazilian accent combined with massive use of Brazilian street slang meant that I only fully understood about 70% of the dialogue!

If you liked City of God you might also like Carandiru. Also based on real life events (this time in a notorious Brazilian prison).

City of God is on my Lovefilm rental list.

When it comes in I will use my eyes to watch it.

 

I watched the documentary last night. It has views from all sides. The dealers, the cops, and residents of the "slums".

Interesting and shocking. Again reinforcing how powerful a film it is.
