Jesus I like the new Coldplay song, wasn't much of a fan of them until now.

Well recorded too with a nicely layered mix that seems to the exception to the rule nowdays!

To my ears it's pleasant enough but also rather dull and predictable. They write some good stuff but it's just a bit too polished for my liking - they never seem to let themselves go and I find myself doubting their sincerety. Their stuff feels manufactured to me - well manufactured but not from the heart.

Even worse are the number of similar sounding (but not as good) bands that have spawned since Coldplay.

The 'something' being ambition IMO - they're capable of turning their hand to an interesting, ear-catching sequence of three or four chords, but their problem seems to be that once they've got their interesting sequence they sit back smugly and turn it into a whole song through simply repeating it twenty times. Plus they're dreadfully flat-footed rhythmically and structurally, with whole bars where nothing at all happens simply because they can't imagine a phrase not being 8 bars long. Clocks is about their only song with any kind of rhythmic interest at all (the 3/8 - 3/8 - 2/8 accompaniment nicely offset against the stolidly 4/4 vocal line - except in the dreadful dance "remix" which, of course, completely missed the point  ) and not coincidentally it's been one of their best offerings, despite being over-familiar now.

They're still better than many though :)

Coldpiss is marginally preferable to Athlete's Foot or Embarrass.

Frog ringtone is better than all three.

World's most boring vocalist marries World's least interesting actress.

Coldplay are dreary in the extreme. Athlete are a hugely better kettle of fish. Embrace, I saw them as the missus loves them. They had fairly lights on the roof. Not impressed. Best of the new bands live though has to be Kasabian, can't see them staying the course though

Yeah the Kasabian record is good. I liked the last snow patrol one too, sounded like a clean cut my bloody valentine.

Yep I'd second that. It's the second album the Stone Roses should have made!
