I notice some releases are coloured and even clear vinyl, I remember picture disks always sounded awful are these coloured/clear ones to be avoided are are they every bit as good as standard black?

You takes your pick I'm afraid. I've some vinyl editions from Denovali that are stunning in colour and sound quality whilst others have sounded as duff as a duff thing in a duff factory on a duff making day!

I read, in Hifi World I think, that vinyl used for records is grey and is then coloured black, so you are buying "coloured" vinyl whatever colour it is

I only have half a dozen or so coloured vinyl albums but they have worse surface noise than my black ones. I know that it's all supposed to be the same in theory but it confuses the hell out of me...
