    Hi again,

There IS an issue with my computer, if some one has got a mo'?

Its not shutting down properly everytime; when i finish i shut down all the progs I have benn using, swich it off, the machine (sorry I'm not really a techy here) clicks away after a couple of seconds FOR a couple of seconds, then it might or might not close down.

Twice running (excuse poss pun) last night it DIDN'T.

ie the processor light flashes for a second or two /hard drive clicks away, then the machine keeps running!!

The last couple of weeks , say 8/9 times out of ten it would shut down properly....its clearly getting worse now.

    Any clues any one? :)

    cheers

    David

just keep the power button depressed that'll switch it off,and clear any random processes you have running.

ALT you could give it a gentle 3 finger salute, CTRL-ALT_Del to get the task manager up and then shut down all the 'user name' processes and then swtich it off.

you'll have a process running that XP can't turn off, probably some crappy virus access.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a virus.AVG anti virus sorted it and it's available free online.

Woah...you misunderstood me. Nothing inappropriate said. Please don't think i took offence :)
McAfee are pretty good so it's probably not virus related. Could you reboot windows? That may solve the problem.

Put in your Windows XP cd rom and start it up. You should be able to re-install without losing data although i'm a little rusty with the procedure. Can anyone else on here give some insight?

Try downloading "Free Windows Registry Repair" then run it you'll probably find that there are in excess of 200 faults in the registry. Alternatively, uninstall and reinstall all drivers, especially web cam, video card, digi cam -- drivers.

    me too

I got into all sorts of trouble with he last computer doing this.

That time the hard drive was breaking down.

IIRC my local computer shop got into a bit of a muddle over it.

    Best of luck.
I'd give the Windows registry repair a go.
If that doesn't work, take a sledgehammer to it :D

My Mrs's Dell behaves like that all the time. I wouldn't worry about it, though I can understand you are irritated. I'd guess about 1 in 10 times it doesn't stop properly when she shuts the lid. But it can always be killed by holding down the power button for 5 to 10 secs.
