There was a thread a while back but I wondered what current views are?
I don't know how much the Copland costs but I think the best automatic solution on the market at the moment is the most recent system from TacT which measures the room with a number of different microphone positions so it can take an average. The problem with many systems is that they correct for one exact spot where the mic is and that can lead to seriously incorrect results which sound nothing like how you actually perceive the sound. I still think the best solution however, is to use a Behringer DEQ2496 and a separate (semi) professional measurement rig. Adjust by hand listening and taking further measurements along the way. If I can get there by public transport without too much hassle I am happy to offer this as a service.
Velodyne also have an optional 5-mike array with their SMS-1 and the equivalent built into the DD range.
That seems a strange way of doing it really... I take it the sms1 can not average different mic positions on its own?
No, it has an adapter box that gives a composite output of the mics. At least it is just the same to use as a single mic as far as set-up is concerned - just run the autio-setup and/or tweaks manually in the same one or a few passes. Probably only cost-effective for installers. Still, perhaps cheaper than the Tact
