Does anyone know any makes which are reliable?
I've got a pair of Binatone ones which worked fine for just over a year, then the display went in one and the other constantly loses it's registration...
Is this the case for all of them - my sister had a pair of BT ones but the keypad went on those after about 2 years - or do they all have an inbuilt obscelence?

binatone/amstrad/bush to be avoided! Make sure they are dect, I have had good results with philips although panasonics are better featured and also pretty good IME

Funny that - I've got an Amstrad tape answerphone which has lasted 10 years so far!

My parent's have an Audioline phone / tape answering machine which has just died after 13 years. Not bad!

I have a Phillips Onis cordless phone which is still going strong after 7 years. It's had a couple of battery changes but this is no problem as it uses AA NiCd cells.

Not BT, I have been through 3 sets in the last 2 years and the ones I have now have started playing up. I keep getting them as they have good guarantees!

Panasonic seem to work well for ages.

We've soldiered on with our BT handset though it's becoming a right PITA; many of the keys stick and it only stays charged up for 20 minutes or so (which at least keeps the cost of calls low!). I may buy a new one soon so am following this discussion with interest.

First move to cordless was a £30 BT phone - terrible battery life, utter sh*t. Then spent £120 on a pair of BT's top (at the time) silvery decent looking thingies - sh*t sh*t sh*t - total waste of money, just stopped working properly after 12 months, poor battery life too.

Then took stock and punted on a Phillips thing around £60 - poor quality, horrible keypad feel/response - key pad actually wore out after just a few months, very shoddy indeed.

Now settled on a Panasonic (around £70) seems excellent (had it around 6 months) much better than the others I mentioned, good battery life, great keypad "feel", good functions.

I've had one of these for a couple of years and apart from changing the batteries once, it's still going strong. Keypad "feel" isn't the best (rubber buttons), but quality of calls is MUCH better than the Binatone I had before it.

I have a BT Diverse answer machine/cordless phone job that's lasted me for about 5 years, and still going strong.

i have a dbtel, dect cordless / answer machine which has been going strong for 2 years now with no signs of going kaput. have had binatone and bt and both were utter arse. the dbtel was the cheapest hands free capable, dect, answerphone available from argos.
    cheers

What he said, in ALL cases (first DECT was a Panasonic (great - even survived the 3 times I lobbed it across the room in disgust during the Glastonbury 2004 ticket fiasco), and now have 2 Philips Kalas which are a year old and going OK).

My BT analog cordless is still going strong at a mate's, but it was shite!

My parents have one of those going too although I think its about 3 years old. Still seems to work fine though, better range on it than the newer BT handsets they've got.

I've still got one of the original BT answerphones from 1980something - the ones that look like a Waltham proptable cassette player.. Still works fine, though the Amstrad is a step up in terms of features ;)
I shall look into the Panasonic and Philips phones.
