There was a series of 4 compilations released in 1996: the "Ocean of Sounds" collection, consisting of bizzare tracks by 'Independent' artists from the past 30 years or so. I first heard it at my mate's house after his dad had been spinning it. Being 1996, I was more into my Radiohead/Soundgarden stage and passed it off as being quite cool but not for me. What a twat !

The first three were entitled "Ocean of Sounds", "Crooning on Venus" and "Guitars From Mars" but I have never been able to trace the supposed 4th release.

Has anybody heard of these compilations ?
Is there a fourth compilation ?

    and

WHERE THE HELL CAN I BUY THEM ?

Out of print and a virtual no-find in all 2nd hand record shops I've ventured in to.

They were put together by David Toop, who also wrote a very good book called (also called Ocean of Sound), which is well worth reading:

Don't know if any of them are still in print, if not, try http://www.gemm.com/

Don't know if there was a fourth, I only have the first two.

Edit: Amazon has two used copies of the first ATM:
