New Amy Winehouse album. The old one hasn't been far from the tray recently either. Genuine talent, great writing, great tunes...and some balls! Really done a great job with the backing music aswell...I've been waiting for a decent soul act to actually use a decent band for that genuine feel. I wish people like Lamaar would think about it.

Theres 2 or 3 blinding tracks on the new album. The title track, Back To Black, is just a brilliant tune start to finish and You Know I'm No Good is really well written...I love these lyrics...she just so easily conjurs an image and its witty too.

Got this too. Did not find it great immediately but this is a good sign:D as I find if I like it straight away, I get bored quite quickly

It didn't immediately strike me as great but I think now having listened to it every day over the last few days there are really only 2 weak tracks on there. Only weak by her standards or compared to the rest of the album. They're certainly not dire tunes!

PLaying Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan at the moment. Haven't played this one for some time. Just reflecting that a copy of this album has been with me since the mid 60's when I first played it on a BSR deck a ceramic cartridge, one channel was that of the recordplayer and the other routed through a valve radio rescued from a jumble sale. It doesnt really matter the technology I still enjoy the music!!, every track is superb. My all time favourite is Visions of Johanna, although the version on this album doesnt really compare to others, my favourite being the live one from the Albert Hall concert.

I've been re-buying a few albums lately that have gone missing over the years.

I've just listened to Mazzy Star "AMOng My Swan" and "She Hangs Brightly" back to back having not had them in my posession for quite a few years :)

Not quite ;). I find certain tracks played at the correct volume "move" me in the way that no mince pie could:D.

Been on a Wu Tang vibe after picking up the latest RZA album for £1 in Fopp. I also notice that its on Amazon for 70p second hand so seems strange to me that an album released last year should already be in the bargain bins. Its actually not a bad album once the first 3 tracks are out of the way so can't have bombed that badly. Also been listening to the GZA's Liquid Swords album and thinking carefully about what other Wu albums I should have. I find you have to pick carefully as some of them are dire. Tical and Only Built For Cuban Linx sound like good buys from what I've been told.

Not sure if I should admit to this, but I received Girls Aloud for Christmas (the CD not the disk)

My sister thought I would like it…

Anyone else got any bad CD for Christmas ?

I've been in a Free mood today so I've had plenty of Paul & koss doing their stuff.

Just put Loreena McKennit - An Ancient Muse, very good indeed and an excellent recording.

Amy Winehouse has been having plenty of spins over the last few days.

    Same here MO.

Recently got Hope Sandovals new album and then went back to the old Mazzy Star stuff.

Used to have all the Mazzy Star stuff on vinyl in my student days (early 90's) and recently got all 3 albums on CD from Amazon.

She Hangs Brightly is probably my favourite overall (first 4 songs especially) but the other two albums each have one or two standout tracks. In particular I just love 'Into Dust' from 'So Tonight I Must See'.

More of a 'Country Music' boy these days:rolleyes: and have been really enjoying Mindy Smiths new album (Long Island Shores) since I got it just before Xmas.

Listened to Nas' Stillmatic over the weekend. Billed as a return to form after a lengthy foray into more commercial waters. Pretty enjoyable album with some good tracks on there. I find the whole culture in hiphop of mc's 'dissing' each other on albums is quite funny. Nas' diss to Jay-Z on the track Ether is pretty comprehensive and quite funny. I wish people in the rock and pop world would do it more. The closest we got was the Blur v Oasis thing back in the day which was largely generated by the press and not actually much cop at all. If they aimed some insults at each other like those found in the hiphop world the gossip mags wouldn't of known what to do with themselves!

Obviously theres a lot of 'Gansta shit' going on but I like to think of it like watching something like the Godfather or Goodefellas. You can't relate to it at all but its a good story and fun to watch.

I thought Nas's new one was "Hip Hop is Dead". Also the name of the current single.
From what I've heard, his "nemesis" Jay-Z, is actually on the new one.

Yep, thats right. Stillmatic was out a while back. I've just only got around to getting it. I really rated Illmatic, as everyone did, and also liked It Was Written, but all the albums between that and Stillmatic got slated so I didn't bother. Hip Hop Is Dead looks to have some good reviews too so might be worth a look.

Glad to see the boys have made up now!
