    Hi

Well got the day off today, sitting around not doing much. Got thinking about putting my CV on Monster, just wondering if anyone has done this, is it worth the effort.

I've not done a CV in years, well I think the last one I did was back in 2000. I'm not very good at writing these.

Is there a particular format that they like, is there some templates around that could be usefull?

I just want to put some feelers out there and see what bites, not really bothered one way or the other at the moment, I can put up with my current job, but I feel there must be something better out there. Been at my current job for almost 3 year and its getting a bit samey and fancy doing something else.

No, I wouldn't bother with Monster - it's a waste of effort in my field (IT). Best bet I've found is being proactive on Jobserve (www.jobserve.co.uk) which is where I've found almost all of my contracts over the years (aside from a couple via recommendations/word of mouth).

From my personal experience as well, I'd totally concur with jtc i.e. doing the search proactively.

I've submitted CVs in the past to job search engines like Monster and have never ever had any responses back.

Do you want to stay in IT or do you an idea of what other sector(s) you might want to work in?

If you want to stay in IT, then this site is pretty good as it collates searches from various other sites and you can put yourself onto an automated mailing list so that it automatically emails you new job submissions matching keywords of your chosen criteria:

    http://www.theitjobboard.com/

BTW, I've just verbally accepted a job offer this afternoon... after 2 years of searching (and the occassional interview) within that time.

Wow Harry well done, is that interview you went to on Friday? Good going mate, I'm so pleased for you, we'll have to go out for a drink to Celebrate, can't do this weekend though, otherwise engaged ;)

Stay in IT, really I'm not sure, I don't know what is out there, I'd like to go back to the motor trade in some way, I had a lot of fun and the people I worked with there where a dam site more fun, I need a lively work environment, where people speak their minds and are not affraid to lark about now and again. I find my current job far to boring and the people might as well be cardboard cut-outs the amount of convo I get out of them. I need simulation, and I'm not getting satification, make of that what you will :)

Yes, this was the outcome of the interview on Friday.

Get yourself along to some of the local recruitment agencies and have a chat with them. Even if you don't know exactly what you want to do, tell them what you've told us here and they'll no doubt get some ideas bouncing. Doesn't cost anything apart from your time.

I'd recommend jobserve (certainly for IT/consultancy type roles) - I secured my current role via there and have just been offered another contract (commutable this time and for 12 months) again advertised on jobserve.

I signed up to one of these things and all I got each day were tonnes of job adverts for consultants in leeds/London/Southampton 45k plus benefits.

Then the next day, managers needed Leeds/London/Southampton.

etc etc, clearly some sort of crap, in over three months I never saw a genuine job advert, such as unit manager needed in Andover or what ever.

The same here, I get so much spam from them stupid sites.

Reed is not too bad, I have had some genuine interviews from there.

The job centre is useless for pretty much anything.

I was on Reed a few years ago and they did actually ring me up a couple of times, but they were too late as I'd found a job, might put my details back in and try again.

Think your right Henry, need to talk to someone about careers advice, see what my options are and where I can go from here, I'm certainly not interested in spending the next 38 years doing the same thing.
