    guys,
looking at getting a DAC (ECD-1 or DAC64) or CD player (EMC-1) in from the states with help from & thanks to the dodgy green-back ;). BUT BUT BUT, I'm wondering what's involved in converting any of them to 240v, I've used step-up transformers before with games consoles but would be worried they'd impact on the sound quality if used with classy hifi?
So is the conversion (relatively) easily done... I've asked Electrocompaniet but haven't got a reply,

    cheers for any advice...

Advice - I'd say import it, and give it to someone who knows what theyre doing for a week or 2.

My voltage conversion cost 35 quid. Would have been about 150 if a transformer needed changing.

You can run some sort of big 120v>220v converting widget, Wadia Meisters the one to ask on these... some sort of mains treating voltage dropping doo hickey as I understand :D

Does anyone know of any other currency which is doing badly (IIRC some far eastern currencies are tagged to follow the USD$) - maybe this would be a better option?

I just checked the GBP versus HKong dollar and Singapore dollar - the £ is at its strongest for 2 years! Whats more, these are both 240volts!!!

    Go forth and import brothers:)

Yup, Hong Kong uses 240V and the three-pin plugs that the UK uses, so you should be safe there.

FYI the DAC64's power supply will work with all voltages and phase frequencies - one of the benefits of a SMPS :)

Thanks for the link, good info although some of it's a bit over my head ;).

That's interesting, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a DAC64 .
