Seeing whats out there, if anyones interested in selling one, give me your nicest price, not saying what I'm willing to pay - just curious to see... and I might be persuaded from having my veneers done again on my teeth! :D

Thanks all for the great pointers, I will do some review surfing. Theres not a huge rush as I have to pay the reconstruction cost on my VRDS transport after the Post Office did their own "mods", yet managed to leave the outer packing box looking okay, thereby exonerating them of any responsibility for the busted laser and bent chassis - nice one guys.

    Which DAC..?

    Hi SMEagol.

I believe Audio Synthesis have a mint/used DAX-Decade DAC for sale at around £1,250. I have been using thier DAX-Decade DAC for many years with totally superb results, stunning build quality too!
Call David Heaton (director) A-Synthesis on; 01159 224138 (Nottingham).

Tell David I sent you, you will not be dissapointed SMEagol, trust me, I'm using my DAC with a Teac VRDS 25, WOW results....

    Best wishes...

Try a North Star Design DAC 192 or Extremo, very smooth and detailed. You can switch between upsampling or none, also has an I2S interface so ready for computer based audio as well. Bit of an unknown product in the UK at the moment although they are made in Italy.
You could try contacting Howard at StereoNow and see if he has a used one in stock enquiries@ stereonow.co.uk

Dax Decade Eh? - stunning - if only! - its built like a tank and perhaps a tad out of my league Peter. Funny you should mention the Northstar it was actually on my shortlist, and it looks great!. Theres one for sale at this great shop in Greece along with a loads of other classy eyecandy at VERY reasonable prices. The Northstar for instance is mint and about one third of RRP. George is a nice bloke too with a great command of English, so don't be afraid to deal with someone so far off, I've had stuff off him before, and its always stunningly packed and delivered via UPS. Temptation looms whenever I look here.

If I hadn't got a dead transport, and pre-amp that now needs fixing I would have bought this. For the time being my search is off - I owe George one as I've had to cancel, so if anyone else would like it - or indeed anything else - please go for it!!

Sorry hear of your problems. If you lived nearer I would be pleased to loan you a spare DAC I dont use much at the moment.

Have you heard the Altmann DAC? I had thought of buying one to try but there are very conflicting comments about them ranging from snake oil to the best thing since sliced bread! So i decided to keep my money in my pocket for the time being. I would love to hear one as they are so unconventional.
