    Hi guys,

How long does the DAC20 need to run in before it starts to rock?

I've been using a DAC20 for about 2-3 weeks now and still can't understand what the fuss is about. I've tried it with Arcam Alpha 9 CDP as the transport and preferred the 9 which I wasn't surprised about. However, I bought it for my second system, with a Pioneer 626D as transport and here as well I can't notice much of an improvement in sound (although it seems to be getting better, very, very, slowly). I've also tried it with a TASCAM CD Recorder and again can't notice any improvement. Surely it should be able to improve on CD playback of the DVD player.

I've been using MF NuVista cables between the amp and the DAC, Maplins Digital cable between the DVD player and the DAC. The rest of my system is detailed in my signature.

Dev. to be fair when we tried technobear's alpha9 on timpys dac, there really aint much difference at all  even with good power cables and i/c's the dac 20, just cleans thing upi a touch, they are pretty evenly matched, the arcam being more raw and forward the dac 20 being a little less so and more refined, but a knats chuff in it mate. Hi WM,

I accept what you say regarding Alpha 9 but it should be streets ahead of the DVD player surely.

I've not yet been convinced about "investing" in power cables but maybe it's time to change that. Now where can I pick up some cables to try b4 buy;)

No need to duck WM, I accept that digital and I/C cables do make a difference.

    Hi Dev

Thanks for offer Penance, but I'm in sunny Ilford in Essex. I'll try Eupens though when funds allow.
