    'Evening everyone

My DAC64 has starting making a machine-gun-rapid clicking sound [as if it's furiously trying to lock onto a signal] when it appears there isn't any signal. It is silent as usual when locked on [ie when it's receiving a signal from the transport], but over the past couple of days has been ticking intermittantly when the transport is on standby or even turned off.

Has anyone else had this "problem" before ??. Have mailed Chord to see if they could shed any light on it but haven't heard anything yet.

    Yours ever

    Paul

Is this clicking/ticking sound coming from the unit itself or out of the audio outputs? Haven't heard of anything similar myself. Have you tried using a different digital connection (eg optical/coax/XLR)?

I've got both coax and optical outs of my Denon DVD-2900 running into the DAC at the moment [trying to get a handle on which one sounds best], so at the weekend I'll hopefully have time to try one cable and then the other to see if the ticking's happening with both or only one of the leads. Thanks for replying.

Any chance the problem is occurring precisely because you have two cables to the same source connected? Did the problem only occurr after both were connected?

Is the Denon set for PCM or bitstream?

    Paul,

Do you have another dac/av processor you could check the output stream from the Denon on?, this would confirm whether a tx/rx error.Does it do on all input formats?
Never personally heard of this problem with the 64, Iaasc is on holiday and as he works with the man that designed it, he may have been able to shed some more light on it. Wm

I don't, Wm. I'm going to keep it the Denon and DAC connected and see how it goes. When Chord reply I'll take it from there. It sounds OK connected, it's only when it's "not connected" that it intermittently seems to sound like a demented carriage-clock.

    Yours ever

Does the problem go away if you disconnect one of the cables then?

    OK, Paul
Try this, connect the dac 64, to a seperate mains feed, even if its an extension lead from the kitchen, see what happens. Wm

PCM or bitstream can be selected from a menu on some. Might be worth checking.
I once experienced such noices and found that the I/C had faulty connections at the termiantions.

    Cheers BlueMax

The problem hasn't happened since. I really hope whatever it is sorted itself out [perhaps I didn't have the mains cord connected tightly enough, or the BNC plug on properly]. We'll see.

Welcome back Isaac - good hols? :) So when are you and your buddy Rob coming out with a Zetex PWM amp? I hear there's a new WTA filter in the works....

We already have done, the ASIC has been available for a long time. Work is progressing to the future though... can't say much, but watch CES.

The WTA is used in the DAC64, and I'm not aware of any new version of it. The idea, however, does continue in development.
