i'll 'third' the decade - although if you are using a pre and don;t need the volume control to 'direct inject' the signal to a power amp the dax 2 (with the npc filter) is better (and cheaper) imho although only just.

Well budget couldnt stretch to a decade - so I got a NOS DAC from Fleebay and what a difference, seems to have opened up the dynamics and Ive got bass like I never heard before even from my ELAC 301s - bass like you wouldnt think possible from them. The music is so clear, voice emotion heapd more detail yet still a very integrated soun. Now I'll have to do something with my analogue CDs are now so good!

Thanks for all the postings people very much appreciated

The NOS is damn good for the cost !

See my mods in the DIY section and squeeze even more from it !

I read somewhere that the power supply was fairly critical in getting the best out of the NOS - IS this the case? At the moment its a little 10 volt plug in the wall thing - I dont believe it is up to much. What about a torroidal - couple of capacitors, a bridge and a voltage regulator - what voltage is best for the DAC - IS it 12 VDC?
-- Guess I could put something together one wet Sunday - Is it desireable to also put small caps across the smoothing ones for RFI ?
