eBay is the bane of everyone trying to make sensible and considered HiFi purchases...

It's barely a week since my "digital source upgrade" thread petered out and I had a long list of kit to audition and it would be months before any cash left the bank account... :student:

So I'm browsing eBay (as you do :D ) and I see a Teac VRDS P-700 transport for sale at a good price, worth a punt then (currently winning it!). No worries, it's pretty cheap.

But just now I see a DAC64 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3034246467&category=3272) and...I'm going to bid :banghead:

If I get it, then out the window goes all that auditioning, considered purchase, not for a few months stuff :inferno: :NADowner:

I will hold eBay fully responsible for me throwing common sense and judgement out the window :D

Well the great thing about HIFI is I guess you can sell them for almost what you payed for it (secondhand) minus delivery charges so I guess you won't loose much. I am going to buy some of those cheap Ixos interconnects you see on ebay which should be £60 but you can get them for £20, they have to sound better than my £10 cambridges.

What would you be doing with the Tag Michael - i have a spare shelf;)

Good luck with your bids - i'm sulking at the moment - as one of my recent 'scores' has backfired and gone belly up.

Are you supposed to audition kit then:D I just buy it and see what happens:MILD:

After all the hard work everyone put in with contributions to your audition list too:banghead: ;)

Been thinking what to do with the Tag if I get the Chord (I was immediately outbid  and still debating whether to bid again). Would probably sell it either here or on eBay. Can always get an M-Audio Studio DAC for use with the PC.

The reserve still hasn't been met on the DAC64 so I'm guessing it's the same as the Buy It Now price (£1400) which is still a good deal but common sense is starting to reassert itself in my mind - I'll always be able to get one for a similar price further down the line so maybe I should just play with the Teac Transport for now and chill on the DAC front :guitar:

    Michael,

Ive seen them for sale before at £1200, so £1400 doesnt look such a good price to me.

    Cheers, Robbo

Mike, yes £1400 is a little high, as the MKII is out, One changed hands recently (MKI) for a mere £1150 cash i do believe ;) WM

What went belly up Cookie, not the Pioneer I hope?

Me I'm a sucker for Ebay. The last purchase is settling in nicely. Think I will run the Linn for a few weeks. Mind you if I'd seen that TEAC Timpy you might have had a bit of competition

i won't go into the tedious details.......i haven't mentioned it to the dac round table yet either - i am now an illegal imposter. The search continues.....oh well might end up with something better.

Darn e-bay. only bought books/music now for ages - i'm getting itchy for a more substantial spend:D though there is nothing which is really tickling my pickle at the moment......

....teaching my neighbour how to use e-bay last night - they have just got a new pc. Talk about an e-bay frenzie - they were bidding on everything with such virgin enthusiasm - there was no telling them.......:newbie:

The one for sale is a MKII though ;) (has the power switch and the 2 BNC sockets).

I've seen them on HiFiForSale for £1200 aswell but this is the updated model with the power switch, 2 BNC inputs and 96kHz capability - mate of mine just bought one of the older models ex-dem. from Walrus for £1400 so it's not bad.

Still, I haven't made my mind up yet (ie. I haven't worked out how to explain the purchase to SWMBO yet :D )
